Do you need to spread it over like LCU or just put a pea size dot and put the heat sink on and it will spread by itself?

Also, do I need to put a pea sized dot also on the heat sink as well s the IHS?

Just on the IHS. Just make sure there is enough to completely cover the CPU when the heatsink is applied, while you don't want it running over either.

A pea-sized application might be a bit much...

Perhaps a BB is a better reference for comparing the amount you apply. In any case, Alex is right: just a bit on the IHS and let the mounting pressure of the heatsink handle the spread for you.

I always use the cross method when applying ICD... Difficult but works... Personally, GC Extreme is so easy to apply that it's my new paste of choice...

I like the cross method. But usually a dot, cross, or line are about the most common methods. Though the differences between all of the different application methods seems to be within a degree or two of each other.

To each their own. I also was a fan of the cross/'x' method too, but got away with a little blob in the center well enough that I ended up sticking with that. (I am still a fan of Gelid GC extreme, also.)

In my testing here are the temps from lowest to highest:

    1) Liquid Ultra
    2) GELID Extreme Thermal Compound
    3) IC Diamond

All great compounds! I've been hearing some interesting things about Thermal Grizzly's Kryonaut compound, also (expensive stuff, but highly praised for enthusiasts/overclockers).

It's good for sure but that price makes it very unattractive compared to GC Extreme which is 1-2C off and like half the price..

Try Grizzly Kryonaut next time. Should be better and just as easy to apply :)

It's 2 or 3 times the cost of GC Extreme.. not willing to waste extra money on it for 1-2C more.. GC Extreme is good enough for me..

I tried kryonaut and it did not perform that great in my notebook, works great in my wife's desktop though.
