My LAPTOP's model is p170hm. I have updated my cpu to i7 2960QS. but i can't overclock it. I have used XTU to adjust it but it may fall down to 3.5G when I load the STRESS CPU TEST in AIDA64 while it falls down to 3.1G when I turn on FPU TEST. It means the cpu doesn't work at the speed I made. So I have to ask for help here.

    Thank you !!

Might be better to ask in the "hardware" forum. You'll get more suggestions faster. :)

I've never heard of an i7 2960QS. If QS means "quality sample", then there you go: it's not a fully-released product.

The QS is considered in the same class as ES (Engineering samples) by Intel. That means it comes without a warranty and with no guarantee as to performance. It's entirely possible you were sold a CPU that just can't handle an overclock. The 2960XM is the newest i7 out there- the successor to the 2920XM. It's theoretically capable of overclocking (unlocked multiplier), though the ES/QS models have no guarantee.

Did you try increasing the multiplier, or just increasing the overall clock speed?

qs? his sample states es in cpu-z, qs is just his language barrier(probably late revision)
