So I just ordered mine on the 13th, with the specs below. I know ram is upgradable to 16GB. My main concern is CPU and GPU. In the future we all know bigger in better comes out. Will it be possible to upgrade the CPU/GPU to the newer better cards? Or am I pretty much stuck with the choices I had when I bought it? 560M, 580M and 6990M (the one I chose). This is my first XOTICPC and Sager purchase so im not sure how it works.

Its actually up to 32gb ddr3 1600mhz. Ivy bridge wont be supported (but when it comes out sandy will drop in price making the 2920xm and 2960xm more affordable if youre looking for a better cpu, ivy will only bring a 100-200mhz increase anyway), the gpus might be supported, but it isnt confirmed.

I don't know what Sandy and Ivy are, so i googled it and read its the 32nm vs the 22nm. But wikipedia also states "Ivy Bridge processors will be backwards-compatible with the Sandy Bridge platform, but require a BIOS/firmware update."

Answer from Clevo was no. Either the mobile hardware will be incompatible or they intentionally wont support it (meaning no BIOS update for it).

16GB of RAM is the maximum amount of RAM supported by Windows 7 Home Premium. You'll need the Pro and Ultimate editions, for instance, to break that limit at which point the OS will no longer be relevant in this discussion as those editions have 192GB limits, I think.

EDIT: Okay, I found his post on this subject.

Generally Ivy Bridge will mainly enhance the internal Intel Graphics (which is irrelevant if you are using GPU) and power consumption

ya, I also want to know if teh HD7000 series or the GTX6X0 will be compatible with it. And I wonder where to get Mobile GPUs...seems very hard to find

To make this clear for the topic creator:
No notebook which is currently on the market will support Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge CPUs, because the chipsets are not compatible with the new hardware.
As far as future GPU upgrades, a Clevo engineer has said that the current P150HM/P170HM will support the upcoming Nvidia 600M and AMD 7000M, but we'll see if that turns out to be true. More info in this thread
How upgradable is the Sager 8150?
