Narrowed it down to what I think I would appreciate having for a powerful laptop this time around.

pfffft, that's what health/medical insurance is for. :D That and since the other person was at fault, their insurance is covering all my medical expenses. So my insurance covers what's left after the initial 80% is paid off. I'm well aware of what is being paid. I call every so often just to make sure so I know full well of where I'm at. :D

All looks hunky dorey but is there no way of punching in 2 6990M's? It would make such a difference for overall performance especially if you intend to keep the bad boy for a good while. Claim for something else :)

I went from an old G73 to my current model thanks to an insurance claim, they paid out UK price on a US model even though I told them the truth it doubled my cheque so I doubled my performance ;)

Is the Dual 6990M really that much better than the Dual 6970M option?

I'm coming from a single GTX 460M to Dual 6970Ms. A 6970M is faster than a 570M by the way so it's like having a GTX 480 in a laptop...

If it's worth the extra $75 I will do it. :D

Dual 6990's would be ~20% faster than dual 6970's. You might want to check out these two links for comparisons of multiple GPU setups:

definitely pop for the 6990's.. after the $100 off it's like they're paying you $25 to upgrade from the 6970's :D

Go the 6990's! The 6970's were a great card, but for the small cost increase you're looking at, makes perfect sense.
