I am brainstorming places to purchase my new Clevo D900K, and i came across HypersonicPC, and it looks nice, especially the paint job. I was wondering if i would void the warranty if i just purchased it like a barebone, with just CPU, Video Card, and put in my own RAM and HDD, Optical Drives?
Also, one more question, HyperSonic's warranty seems SUPER CHEAP $97 for 3 yrs!?! How does it work, is it sent through a 3rd party like ATS?
-
I would highly recommend to check out www.RJtech.com , they specifically sell you the barebones of the high-end Clevo notebooks and you can also configure it as a full system as well. They have great pricing and support as well.
If you really like a custom paintjob, also check out www.xoticpc.com for the same notebook. They have nice custom paint jobs, but they only sell fully configured notebook... no barebone Clevo's.
For the best pricings, for fully configured notebooks, you should check out:
... and more on the Clevo Guide
They all price match... and beat pricings.... so give them a call.
Note: I do not understand why you would want the D900K (even I own one), you can get much more mileage from a Clevo M570U since its got better processing power and weighs noticeably less. The only reason I think people want the Clevo D900K is..:
- dual Harddrives
- dual Optical Drives
- wont take it around too much (desktop replacement)
- high-end videocard
Too bad that the Clevo D900K is getting phased out by some of the vendors that were selling them... Alienware was the first major Clevo reseller to phase it out, now the Sager (and their resellers) are starting to as well.
The only reason I got it back in March was because it was the only dual-core notebook on the market. Its been a great notebook, but its getting to feel more obsolete since the Socket 939 CPU and the DDR1 memory are becoming a bottleneck for future upgrades. Even now, I am considering to get a Clevo M570U for my girlfriend to get her off of mine. -
I know its saddening that its becoming phased out, but hypersonic gives the choice for no "XXXX" option saving some $$, so i was wondering if putting them in would void the warranty, and anything with the Cheap warranty going through 3rd party like ATS?

hypersonic doesn't offer barebone systems, though calling them never hurts (especially when it's a toll free number)
I suggest getting a bare bone from either rjtech or istnc, though rjtech is the cheaper option of the two. Then ship your laptop to smooth creations. They do some really really nice work, though they charge $400 and it takes around 4 weeks, but it's totally worth it if you got the time and cash. Smooth creations has a comparable price and wait time compared to hypersonic.
I'm pretty sure they're using a 3rd party for their warranty, but again you should call them to make sure.
here are some pics of smooth creations work

I also share Gophn's sentiments and agree that the m570u > d900k. Do you own stock in AMD or something? -
Seriously, if you are seriously going to get the barebones of the Clevo D900K, you should be able to save at least $200-300 if you just get the barebones with Optical Drive, videocard, (and even the TV Tuner) only, since the rest can easily be found cheaper at www.newegg.com -
I have/had 4 desktop computers and 1 laptop. 2 Intel Desktops, 2 AMD. Laptop Celeron M.
Either I've been the unlucky duck, to get new technology when something bigger is going to come out, but my Intel Desktops are: Pentium 4 2.8ghz, 1mb Cache. The 2nd is a Pentium D, 2.8ghz 2mb Cache. I don't know whats wrong with them, but my AMD Desktops smoke these away. . .
[Gaming on these was nothing I played Command & Conquer Generals on these systems].
My Old Emachines AMD Athlon XP 1.9ghz w/ 256mb (512mb w/ P4) somehow goes faster than the Pentium 4. Intel is known to take the throne for SuperPI but only a marginal 5 seconds in 2m calculating!!! Thats crazy! Also, playing games went almost the same speed, a little slower on the AMD but thats understandable w/ 256mb RAM.
Then I have an AMD Athlon 3700+ 2.4ghz w/ 1mb Cache (1 gig system RAM) vs. my Pentium D 2.8ghz 2mb Cache, the Athlon beats it in SuperPI (1 secondno a huge difference doesnt bother me i actually would have thought of this happening, althought I'm getting a hunch that something isn't right with that result, but thats not my main source of regret over Intel CPU's), but multitasking is just not 'true' 'multitasking' with my Pentium D, it almost feels as if my Athlon is doing better. . . (both have 1 gig system RAM). Games are slower to load and not as smooth with the Pentium D [Both systems have an EVGA 7600GT KO].
I was VERY dissapointed in the Pentium D and the Pentium 4. For the money i payed for these Intel processors that were a 'landmark' for CPU's i feel regret and my blood is boiling. I payed $120 for my Athlon 3700+, and $170 for my Intel Pentium 4 (Around the time when both came out! Very expensive, and the AMD was around 40% cheaper!!!!!!!!!) Also DDR2 RAM is the most disappointing for me, I see little if not ANY or LESS system improvement over my (Athlon XP DDR PC2700 333mhz, and DDR PC3200 400mhz RAM vs DDR2 PC4200 533mhz RAM!)
And my laptop?
My laptop is an Acer TravelMate 2480-2551I know i was on a budget and at the time it was a great choice for my needs. This thing (even after fresh installation of Windows XP) goes slower than an ox. No Joke. I know its an Acer, but i needed something fast, that wasn't graphics intense or 2k, but now i have the money. And yet again MY Athlon XP 1.9ghz goes faster!
Overall now that the Core 2 Duos and (Past Core Duos on laptops) have come out, i haven't given them a thought after my dissapointment over the 'new', 'great', 'beats AMD', Intel Processors, I have put MUCH thought into an AMD notebook thats not Turion (x2), considering those are supposedly terrible. All i hear is how 'Great' these new Core (2) Duos are, but my weary mind is cautioning me about them and i cant get my head off the Clevo D900K, considering I have seen it in action and personally (Alienware MJ-12, that my friend got off eBay for $1800 brand new and sealed with the 6800 ultra go 256mb and games run smooth even with the AMD athlon 3200+ and 1 gig ram), for me weight is not an issue neither is battery life, and I would love to barebone and build it myself.
Basically that is my odyssey over why right now I am hooked on AMD, maybe you will notice my dissapointment, and weariness over Intel. Hope this might clarify anything. + For some reason the Design and Layout of the Clevo D900K pleases me more than the m570u.
Happy New Years for East Coasters 2007! -
xtyfyb,
I had the same question about hypersonic warranty last week, and I sent them an e-mail. I received a response from them, and hypersonic does all warranty service in house. -
Okay, thanks for the update Scanner, very appreciated!
