The x7200 is actually just a little bigger than Alienware M17x. With all of the talk of x7200 beastiality, I thought the x7200 was substantially bigger in every dimension and much heavier too. Now I guess the beastiality revers to the power more than the size.

    x7200
    12.13 Lbs
    Height: 2.2 - 2.4"
    Width: 16.5"
    Depth: 11.2"

    M17x
    Weight: 11.68 pounds
Height: 2.02 inches to 2.11 inches Front to Back
    Width: 16.0 inches
    Depth: 12.7 inches

The x7200 is 9% taller, 3% wider, but it has 11% less depth. Its depth makes the x7200 more than an inch shorter.

The x7200 is almost 10% heavier but that doesn't include the x7200's power anvil.

I can't imagine the size differences being much of an issue. The x7200's more weight might matter if you travel with it regularly.

That leaves the noise as my biggest reservation to buying an x7200. The cycling on and off that I have heard about sounds annoying.

It's funny because the notebook I am currently using has fan problems. They are extremely loud lol, and I am almost used to it.

Idk about the X7200's fan noise, but the fans on the M17x are deafening when running at 100%. The M17x has 3 fans, and the X7200 has 4 so, maybe 25% louder? idk

My Alienware notebook is an M9750 and it is fairly quiet but it only has two fans. I wish I knew how many db's it got up to so that I could anticipate how much louder a 60db x7200 would be. Also, I'm hoping someone posts a solution to the fan cycling noise annoyance.

Man, no matter how much db its outputting, using a headset/headphone will solve all the problems.

I couldnt care less how much it will sound. I never bothered with the sound from a working system.

I prefer to output the sound to a stereo and not have to wear headphones but I might have to get some good headphones.

well, unless you are listening to suspenseful classical compositions i think the stereo will cover the fan noise annoyances.

actually for fan control you might want to talk to the writer of the hwinfo32 software. he is a fairly active member here and recently he implemented fan control for a number of controllers on HP laptops.

Well I'd call both the x7200 and the m17x beasts its just the x7200 is not as streamlined as the m17x making it look more beastly

    X7200 is 0.3" thicker than the M17x, that's quite a lot.

These two beasts would make a tiger. Imagine a Clevo/AW hybrid machine: AW design, build, alienfx, warranty, display + clevo's cooling and desktop motherboard. That notebook would destroy everything else on the market.

yep, downright possible. I was just thinking as beastly as it will perform the appropriate psu given additional component of the RGB screen, illuminated keyboard. With the sole psu with that dire size of x7200, im not sure how much power draw it will make in hybrid configuration with m17x.

It may do good, or i may do worse.

Does anybody know the fan model#s for the X7200, M17x? I am curious if the fans push a lot more air than Asus fans since it has to be able to cool a 980X and sli video chipsets. Just needs to fit my existing fan mount.

The best fan for my G50VT runs at 5 volts, 500milliamps; the Forcecon DFS541305MH0T.

Technically it's not bestiality, as we're discussing inanimate objects.

I had to send mine back, it was just too loud for me at idle, I had a i7-950 w/ 480m, and the fan on the gpu was the problem, it would go between on and off every 40 seconds or so, wouldn't have been a problem if they just keep it on low for cripes sake! Actually though that wasn't the only issue, I just couldn't see using the thing as a laptop at all, it is just too huge, no battery, and the PSU lol, omg. Went with an Asus 720qm 480m 15", cheap, fast, awesome looking and its very quiet. I'm so glad I didn't stick with the x7200 now that I see how fast sandy mobile is, jesus, the mobile proc is the same speed and faster in some cases than an i7-950! And my Asus will be super easy to resell. Going with a 2500k new desktop and a new sandy laptop after that.

Forget the laptop size. Look at the PSU! It weighs more than some netbooks...

Ya, if the X7200 had the Sandy Bridge chipset & CPU, then it could hopefully shut down both video cards and just use the internal GPU when not hardcore gaming!

Should get a big boost of battery life.
