Anyone done this or know how? I know it's possible, i don't care for 3d just want the 120 refresh rate.
I'm using a Dual Link DVI.

    Thanks

I'm not sure the DVI port on the P150EM is dual link, it may only be single, try an HDMI or DP cable.

EDIT: Yes it's single link, so yes, one of the other two ports needs to be used.

A game can have as many FPS as it likes your monitor will simply not render them all.

A single link DVI port cannot drive a 1080p 120hz display, you will need an HDMI or DP cable.

Then you will need to get an HDMI or DP to dual link DVI cable/adapator.

How can you check if your DVI output is Dual or Single link? If anyone knows, what's the x7200 one?

Dual I think, the dvi may be single on the em due to the intel hd4000 limitations.

    Howdy,

It is not very clear whether the DVI port is single link or dual link. It does look like dual link but on some websites you can see in the specs of the laptop that it's single link. My reseller told me it's dual link.

It does not make much of a difference anyway since the HD4000 indeed cannot handle 120hz@1080p. 120hz will work only up to 720p, which is the same limitation as HDMI 1.3.

ive got the samsung monitor 2333z or something along those lines, its 720 or 1366x720 (approx) and Ive got the same problem. I have the sager np9150 and I'd love to push out 120hz to the capable samsung display but it just wont... ive tried creating a manual resolution setting and it doesnt display. Anyone figured this out? its quite annoying considering how easy it was with my old desktop and 8800gt. I also hate that you cant use the discrete graphics on battery.. sure it'll only last like 20-30 mins..but we should be ABLE TO!!

Very nice; can you get a 120hz@1080p desktop with it? It would mean that the HD4000 is not the limiting factor.

That is part of the reason I went for the np8170 (p170hm) when I did instead of waiting another year for the new stuff.

What settings are you using? I can't get mine to display 720p 120Hz through a HDMI cable in my SHARP TV, when I apply a custom resolution it wont do anything. Same for a Samsung TV.

Do those TVs actually support those resolutions?

Most 3d TVs don't and may just be 720p 60hz and 1080p 24hz to support bluray movies.

Hey I have a question I have a P150EM laptop - this laptop has a 680M nvidia graphics card installed but also with the intel HD4000.

Using DVI with my benq monitor I can only recieve 60hz.. I have made a custom res which can achieve 115hz at 1024x768.. Sadly this is as far as I can go with my DVI port.

My question is - if I use a displayport cable will my laptop achieve 120hz on other resolutions?

I think I read somewhere before the that DVI port on the P150EM is actually only single and not dual?

Any information on this question would be great!

    Many thanks!

You want to be able to melt the batyry? Because that is what would happen.

Also yes the dvi is only songle link and a dp connection would help.

the DVI port on the Clevo EM series is definitely only a single link, tested on my P170EM and my bros P150EM, gotta use either displayport or HDMI to get 120hz or >1080p

Ok so I picked up an HDMI cable and I can now achieve 100hz max at 1280x1024.

also on 1600x900 I can also get 100hz.

If I try to push to 120hz it is not possible due to bandwidth.

Would a Displayport cable fix this problem??

This is all from custom res though and not possible from just the detection menu.

Right ok perfect - I have also now ordered the same one!

Why is it then that the HDMI cable didn't work correctly??

Just another note. I have a nvidia 680m in my laptop will this make a difference? I see you are using the AMD card.

    Thanks again!

running into the same issue, and reading through, its good to know the display port will work. Im on hdmi now, generic cable, and cant get above 60hz. Now, I was reading the specs on a certain hdmi cable, and it states 120hz is supported, so am i limited by my current cable? and try the other(local store) or just order the display port cable knowing that it has worked for others in this thread.

Our laptops hdmi port is 1.4a which doesn't support 120hz. As far as i know the only way for the our laptops to display 120hz is through display port.

Not a good idea. I flashed my bios on my 680m(P170EM) and the gpu no longer down clocks on battery so I tried playing on it, once. 5% wear level on my battery from 0% before. I never considered this before but I suppose discharging the cells at a high rate(full battery in 20 min or so) damages them. I did a full discharge just a couple of days before I tried this so I don't think this was a mistake/battery reporting wrong levels.

Yes, there is a very good reason, batteries are not designed to be discharged so quickly, since the graphics card can do this by itself Nvidia limit the draw on battery and it's a bad idea to circumvent this.

Battery wear is the best outcome, an exploding or melting battery is the worst.
