My computer is totally unresponsive and smells like burnt electronics

So last night I closed my computer up and left it plugged in to charge. When I woke up this morning the power supply was chirping and the light was flickering. When unplugged from the computer the power supply goes solid green (like normal). The laptop responds to nothing whether plugged in, battery only, nothing . . . As the power supply is plugged in I can here one chirp from the computer before the power supply starts chirping. FWIW the chirps sort of sound like capacitors.

The computer is only a year old. Right now I'm in the middle of pulling it apart to search out a scorched component. Has anyone heard of a problem like this before? Any suggestions as for a next step? I'd rather not send it back to the manufacturer as time is critical and I'm an electrical engineer so I have some skill at these things. Thanks in advance!

It could be your computer it might be the power brick. Have you taken the battery out to check if it will boot without the battery? Have you tried to boot off just the battery? Did you have a storm in your area and did you leave it plugged in? Have you cleaned the dust out of it lately? More info please if you'd like some help troubleshooting it.
