As some of you may know, I was going to return my Sager NP5790 and exchange it with a Sager 9260 because the fans on the 5790 were giving me headaches. Guess what? The reason the fans seemed so loud to me was because...
My microphone boost was set to 30 dB (max) and the fans were being recorded and went through and played through the speakers which were at max volume making the fans appear so loud. Well, I turned the microphone boost down to 10 dB and everything is a-ok now, =)

LOL...... thats both sad and funny.
So would you amend your "loud fans" statements
(in your Review... and many other threads) -
And are you still going to exchange it?
-
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
yeah yeah yeah, all those loud fan statements are un-true...far from true actually. The fans are barely noticeable unless you're actually listening for it...
As for exchanging it, I'm not sure...the 9260 seems like a waste of money if you're not going to have a RAID array and SLI...
But here's a question for you, are the new CPUs wu-jen said was going to be available for the 9260 (3.2 ghz c2d extreme) as well as the 5790? -
The 9260 has a Socket 775 that uses desktop Core 2 Duo's
The 5790 has a Socket P (Santa Rosa) that uses mobile Core 2 Duo's.
So no.
But the 5790 will have its mobile Core 2 Xtreme's and Penryn CPU's coming out for it soon.
.... and a mobile quad-core is being worked on as well. -

thanks for the information, once again.
In that case, my answer is probably no, since 5790's are also getting their own share of CPUs, ^_^.
EDIT:come to think of it...I have about 150 dollars that is going to nothing now, time to look through newegg for some accessories now...shall I get that Zalman nc-1000 you've been recommending...hm... -
yup I do not think you need to change up.
Make sure you edit your Review about the Fan Noise.
add the tag :EDIT: or something like that.
Your review has made many future [and potential] 5790 owners concerned. -
I really hope that wasn't the problem with mine ... it's already on it's way back
-
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Alright, my review has been edited...
zalman nc-1000 here I come... -
Hmm , maybe I should take another look at this one , if only it had a subwoofer , 2nd HD and somewhat better style it would be much easier .
-
This notebook has a:
1x Built-in Woofer 2W
LOL.
As for extra storage, I find it convenient to have a 2.5" external drive (USB powered) in my bag to store stuff and to use to copy stuff to/from another computer. -
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
hm...I got a PM a couple days regarding my review, well not really but the title was, ''Regarding your Sager NP5790 Review''. He asked this question, ''Is it possible to take out your optical drive to put in another HDD?''
Btw, the zalman nc-1000s are out on newegg, what a bummer.
Is there any difference between the black and silver models? They're both NC-1000s just one is sold out and has better/more reviews then the silver one which is not sold out... -
both are the same.. just different colors.
-
Anyway, I have to say that the built-in microphones for notebooks seem to be very difficult to set just right. The one on my computer is totally different than that of my dad's. I can understand how this happened. Still, I'm surprised you didn't just happen to mute the microphone earlier. Oh well... -
Try the microsoft hardware wizard. Test your microphone on it. Since the speakers are right there with the microphone it makes a NASTY looping sound. Very bad IMO.
Glad you got it fixed and working for you though! -
man you were freaking me out that it was going to be a jet engine!

Hallo guys, I am from Germany and yesterday I got the Clevo M570RU (it is exactly like the Sager, but I don't know if they use different fans)... I put it on and I couldn't believe it... no sounds... I was so happy... Then after a minute it started the concert ... BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR SHWWWWWWWWWWWWWW... It is soooo loud!
So maybe there is a difference with the sager but the two fans go on every minute (it depends on what you are doing, it is not really constant) and in my opinion they are totally loud. You can really annoy somebody if you are in a silent room. I say this to worn Germans who thought like me that the Clevo would be not that loud... Imagine: there was a very positive test about my EX laptop (it will go back immediately) saying it is very silent!!!
and again
I should have believed the other test that said clearly how loud it is... That's a pity because the laptop has a top performance.
-
it should not be loud at all....
it is either a microphone config.. or fans are defective.
this notebook is extremely quiet. -
What do you mean with microphone config? Everything was standard and I didn't do any change... I didn't put microphone in it. I don't think fans were defective. I really think it was normal. It was actually exactly like they described in this review:
http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Nexoc-Osiris-E705-Clevo-M570RU-Notebook.4128.0.html -
I read the first message but it doesn't work with me because I didn't connect any microphone-.
-
mute the microphone.
and make sure the notebook is running on a cool flat surface (so the vents do not get blocked). -
Thats an extremely detailed review of the Clevo M570RU... I have not seen one that is that in-depth... too bad its not in English... but the pics and benchmarks need translation. -
But I don't have a microphone inserted... I don't need a cooler at the moment... In Germany is not warm at all today...
-
There is a built in microphone in the front right corner of the notebook. Mute the built in microphone using the audio control panel or the Realtek HD Audio Manager.
-
Yes the review is also very honest. So probably Sager did manage to put other fans? I really don't know. But my Clevo was extremely loud and annoying. Those two fans runnig after two minutes are really distracting...
-
-
I did it! I was already mute.... It didn't bring anything. At the moment the fans don't run so often because I am not doing anything. But yesterday...
Anyway it is loud as hell. Maybe I am too sensitive, but the reason I wanted a notebook was just this: less noise... -
So listen at sec. 56. The costant sound you hear on the background is not the notebook. it is the videcam.

The high constant noise is the videocam. You can easly identify it... At sec. 56 (or better -24) you can clearly hear the fans starting to work.
-
Mine made the same exact sounds. But after it was on for awhile the second fan would stay on. And that is what annoyed me.
-
Yes exactly. When I did the video I just put it on. But then a fan stays constantly on the background. I mean: how people can call this not loud???
-
I was watching a movie with my sound at 100% and I was standing on the other side of my bed and I could barely here it because of the fans, which was when I decided to send it back.
I think the sound is worth it if you are actually going to use the graphics card to it's full ability, but I wasn't. Though now I really want to play Bioshock : ) -
The facts that the noise goes on and off make me crazy... it is even worse than a constant sound...
-
I would be soo happy when the second fan would finally shut off, but then it would come back on. It's one of those where you eventually want to throw it at the wall to make it stop.
-
Maybe there'll be a bios update or a tool so the fans are always on but without full speed...
And the Notebook IS quiet for a gaming NB, of course you can't compare it to a office NB -
Well only the shoots of a very loud game can kill this screaming monster of notebook!
-
When I was playing Hitman and it didn't bother me, but I don't play games a lot. I watch more movies and stuff I have downloaded. I also didn't want to mess with the bios or fan control tools because I didn't want potential mess up my computer.
-
me too. I choosed this notebook because I need a very powerful one for my work... I never play...
-
It would be interesting to know if lawlz_xD's notebook is as loud as ours...
-
@ 6edo
If you're no player you should get the 8700m. Not sure which GPU you got.
And you might want to add that you're using the Core 2 Extreme X7800 which could be causing the increased noise. -
when I ordered mine the 8700m wasn't available, it was added about a week after.
-
It would be maybe less noisy but I really doubt that it would be bareble. There is a review about it...
Lawlz, are you listening? Is your laptop as loud as mine? -
For people who can't understand German: strangely this review is more negative about the noise than the review of the 7950. They clearly say that it is loud! For the 7950 they wrote it was pretty quite... unbelievable...
-
And if you're reading through it you'll get the feeling there must be something wrong with it. Because they are claiming the NB with 8700 is 3-4 db(A) louder than the 7950, which is not making any sense. Because the 8700m should be cooler, thus producing less noise. I like there reviews, but they are no gaming NB pros so you should take them with a grain of salt
You can use google to translate or just look at the scores and stuff. -
maybe it is cooler but the fan is louder...
-
The fans are the same so if the systemtemp is lower the fans shouldn't be louder...
-
I just think the review of the 7950 was way too positive about the noise... the review I posted before is more real...
Concerning my (EX) CPU... Yes I ordered the expensive7800, but they sent me the wrong one, a 2.2!!! That means you can't justify the noise because of my CPU. -
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
It's really hard to tell if our laptops are louder then the other. It's really all personal opinion on what you think is loud.
-
I feel so stupid, *slaps head*
