Well a constant sound from a fan is to be expected from a gaming notebook... it should be noticeable if you are listening for it.... but it should not be annoying.

And if you are gaming and pay attention to the fans... then you got problems.

Why is it so hard? Just look at the video at -24 sec. (before the end). Do you hear the same kind of noise? Burkle25 could easly tell me if it was the same... I don't ask you if it is loud, I ask you if it is the same...

Hey hey... if sound is an issue, you could always put on those ear-muff circumaural headphones to make some of the "baddie" sounds disappear from your hearing :p

HHHHmmmm, than you so much for your help...
To be honest I find very strange that lawlz_xD 's laptop suddenly became so silent... I don't know... how can be this possible? It is just the same as mine... and I am not the only one who is complaining about the noise...

    @ 6edo
Did you read why he thougt his notebook was loud?
And I don't really understand what kind of help you are looking for?
Are you searching for a way to reduce the noise or have you already returned the notebook and just want to know if your notebook was louder than others?

Yes I read it... Because of the micro...
but if his notebook is just the same as mine, he couldn't say that the fans are now soooo quite. He could say that now they are not as loud as before, but that they are still very loud. So I really wanted to find out if the problem was just with my laptop...
But I think it will be impossible to find it out. Noise is just a personal matter.

I'm looking to buy a 2.5" external drive and there's too many options so it's just hard to choose!

Which one do you use and would you recommend it?

    - thanks!

    Any one is fine really...
as long as its USB 2.0 and is powered with USB... rather than having external power.

For bang for the buck, is the external 2.5" HDD 120-160GB at the moment.

Just get one, and quick format it with NTFS

lawlz_xD, could you please make me a favour? Could you film your Clevo while the fans are on (with not radio or music on the background and without talking, just like I did) in order to compare your noise with mine?

they are in stock at amazon, both colors. i believe the price is $45.16 for black and $49.99 for silver.

Is there any difference between the black and silver models? They're both NC-1000s just one is sold out and has better/more reviews then the silver one which is not sold out...[/QUOTE]

I just got mine in the other day, and I've got to say that I can hardly hear the fans, even when the larger one kicks in. The only time I can hear it is if I actually listen for it, and even then it's not that loud. I'd even take this into a library, if there was a library where I'm at in Afghanistan :D

I think the fans are pretty quiet for a gaming notebook and I have taken it to my university library several times and it didn't seem much louder than any of the other several notebooks around me including smaller dells and vaios. No one even seem to bat any eyelid either when the louder fans turned on even people who didn't have a laptop and were just studying.

Lawlz, I'm wondering why you're still selling your Sager even though you say everything is "A ok". It doesn't seem to make sense  . You even called it your beloved :confused2: . Why would you go through the hassle of selling and then buying again? How come all of a sudden you don't need a gaming laptop? You seem exceedingly frivolous, considering you plunked down $2000+ on what seems like now an ill-fated decision. How does one buy a gaming laptop only to realize a very short time later they don't need one and furthermore you seemed to have condemned the fan noise only to quickly retract that statement through a miracle fix which quite frankly as an avid pc enthusiast, which you seem to be, should have been common sense? I don't understand how you can justify that inefficiency. Gophn are you a Sager or Clevo employee? You seem all to pleased that Mr. Lawlz laptop's design flaw was a simple novice mistake on his part. Sorry for the questions but if we as the consumer are going to pay a good chunk of cash on what seems to be an obscure system, we shouldn't be mislead.

he is selling it because he does not need the portability at the moment, and would rather get a gaming desktop.

I would do the same if I am not traveling around much. :)

FYI: I wish I was a Sager or Clevo rep..... all I do gets no monetary gain. Thats why I am still a poor college student. :(

    Correct, =)

I do not need a laptop at the moment, I'm a 14 year old teen. I'll need a laptop in 4 years or so. But at this time, a desktop seems more practical.

So if in fact a desktop seems more practical why attempt to trade the np5790 for another laptop only to then give up? Then an even shorter time later decide you need a desktop. It all isn't adding up to me.

umm.... you have not been reading the other trading threads I am guessing.

he is not trading for a notebook anymore... it hasnt been that way for a while now... this thread is old, he just revived it to find a buyer for the notebook or a trader for a high-end desktop.

Listen Lawlz if you are selling your laptop it would be a great service to me and others which would be interested if you quelled this fear of "fan noise". Please post a video of your laptop running with a game muted or some other high intensity app that can display your laptops fondness for silence. Please speak during it the vid for comparison. Now if you are selling it I'm sure this isn't such an unreasonable request.

Explanations are not enough proof. I can explain to you that my car only has 20K miles over the internet and sell it to you or I can prove it to you by snapping a picture or taking video. Now if you are going to spend a lot of money on this car what would you prefer? In essence, your explanations seem quite frivolous and I think anyone here that would want to buy your laptop would appreciate a heads up. Thanks.

    enigmagnetic1,

you are new here, so I will give you a quick run through.

If you order any notebook from Sager... you have a 30-day full satisfaction guarantee.

So if you do not like it due to noise, or whatever other stuff that you feel makes it unsatisfactory... you can get a full refund... including the shipping cost.

    Got it?

No one wants to screw over their customers, if you are one of those that cannot be pleased, then the guarantee is there for you to use.

Note: Make sure to do whatever you like with the notebook, but if you activate any software [w/ licenses... like Windows or MS Office], then you will have those software [w/ licenses] deducted from the refund amount (and they becomes yours)... since the activated software cannot be re-sold. Standard computer retail if you do not know already.

And yes, you can use the Windows (if you order the system with it) for 30 days without having to activate it.

Sadly, they can't refund the time wasted. It would be two weeks before I get it then another two weeks to get my refund. I was hoping lawlz could clarify this issue for others since he is selling it. Sadly being "new here" doesn't change this.

Just wondering, are you looking to take this laptop to class to take notes? I wouldn't recommend it, this is a huge monster of a laptop and it does make a lot of heat without a lapcooler.

Basically when the fan is on "high", I can still hear my clock going "tick-tock" over it.

Here is a recording of it... my voice should sound like a regular voice? http://home.comcast.net/~tomstrife/VoiceA02.mp3

Basically I am 3feet away from it in the beginning, 1/2 a feet, then right on top of the laptop. Basically, this is when it is on full blast.

The first sounds might be my voice recorder static (I use this for recording in class, if anyone could help with with recording software noise issues, please see my other thread, thanks!) http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=167406

I guess you should have the volume of the quicktime or whatever Maxed, but the system volume should only be pressed up twice to get the actual noise level.

It doesn't sound bad, i can stand loud fans. but i can't stand high pitch noise.

I hope that everything will be alright when i get mine tomorrow, can't wait. In fact i can't sleep, i keep hearing the knock on the door from the UPS guy :)

im going to make sure when i get it tomorrow that i run a whole bunch of stuff and check every little detail like headphone ports and so on.....once i get done, ill probably post up a really small/mini review and if i have a problem, that too. *crossing finger*

Per toms recording I dont see it as to loud of a system if you just keep in mind to adjust your volume to a point where toms voice is heard as speaking in a normal level tone as if he were standing next to you . I thought it was somewhat loud myself until I noticed how far up my volume was and gave it some more thought. dont just jump to conclussions I find it well within a tollerable range

I felt so stupid years ago a short time after I bought my first laptop ever; a black Sager 10 lb. laptop with a 2.33 Mhz CPU. I actually carried the thing around like it was an ultra-lite because it was a fun new toy for me. I was so happy with it, that is until I deleted the config file and some other file in DOS...It would not boot at all after that. I knew squat about computers back then and in my hap-hazard way of finding things out I had gone too far. I was very depressed at that, and called Sager tech support.

The Sager staff back then were oriental. As I explained my sad story over the phone to a techy I had to laugh at his somber response; "Yah...you rearry messy up dis-a-time...din' you..."

But they gave me some helpful hints and I fixed it.

I basically kept the special pre-order combo.

    7200 rpm hd - 160gb
    7950 gtx
    T7300
    2Gigs of ram
Using my copy of Windows XP
    No other really special add-ons

Also, a side note about my CPU, I thought it was pretty slow compared to the others - I ran the wPrime-32M benchmark program when I first got my computer and I scored a weak 45.901s (after hotfix)... Then a few weeks later it was running almost 3 seconds faster after a quick reformat and re-installation of my programs... although my computer was running a bit hotter (still no lapcooler yet).

I guess compared to my other laptop, this one is very very quiet - (the other one has so many problems, but I really needed it for school and it seemed fine when I was using a desktop for gaming + the laptop for school, but the fan on the smaller cyberpower laptop - that one had the absolute worst noises. (I dont have the model, I just know it was a smaller wide screen from I guess 2 years back). Reminds me of those small dogs that just bark so loud.

So far, I've been able to play Madden '08 on max graphics very well (although I got bored because the game is pretty much Madden '07) and before I quit playing WoW, it was running it very smoothly with max'ed graphics (not very intensive though). Other shooters have been fine, and I've been messing around with a lot of programs like Sony Vegas, Soundforge etc, and they've been running pretty well for me. Had it for 3 months, and it hasn't let me down yet.

Also, my webcam owns my girlfriend's... her logitech one has weird colors, but mine runs very well on MSN if anyone was wondering (no pics sorry!) - also to anyone with problems installing their webcam - I had troubles with the drivers on my CD, so i got the ones from the website and they work fine.
