Thanks, Gophn for advice on the bang-for-buck CPU, which I did heed, coming to my senses a bit financially. =) Now, I'm on pins & needles 'til it arrives.

Oh, and for the Linux gang, I will be attempting to dual-boot this as XP/Ubuntu and will post my experiences. I have successfully done XP/Xubuntu on the old-and-dying Inspiron 9100, including VPN with remote desktop to my office box, wireless and other goodies under Linux. I'm curious to see what I can do Linux-wise with this fine new hardware. Wish me luck!!

I just mentioned this in another thread, but it applies here as well. If you are into overclocking, the T7200 can probably be pushed a few hundred MHz into the T7400 -> T7600 range of clocks. There's a thread on here by me on how to overclock the Merom processor on the M570U using ClockGen. It's a bit tricky as a bit of manual editing of the PLL registers needs to be done first. Safe to do though in terms of overclocking.

    Nice RIG!

Definitely going to be a beast.

As for overclocking... I would not recommend it, unless if you are comfortable with it. The increase in performance from it would be barely marginal for over-all use... only some benchmarks might see a slight improvement.

Please tell us when you receive it. :)

I'm a bit sad with 8800/8700 on the horizon, but I know that's why I was able to get such a good price on mine.

I hear you tiohn, I really really REALLY like the looks on the new M570RU. It just looks, well, . . . I just really like its looks. But the current lappy is dying and the length of time, plus the price premium for the latest and greatest, plus the potential for "bleeding edge" problems tipped me in favor of ordering now.

Now if I could only find a way to stop chewing my fingernails until I actually have it in my hot little hands. =)

Congratulations on your order, that is a loaded config. We'd be interested to hear your thoughts when you open that box. ;) Enjoy!

8800/8700 is good for native DX10 support.. but it's not going to be that revolutionary at first. only thing that my even push DX10 with any effort is crytek and even then.. that game will look so good on DX9 hardware.. can't look any worst then Farcry and that game is a beauty.

Finally, got my shiny new Sager NP5760! Actually, received it over a week ago, and a big "Thank You!" to Justin, et al., at Xotic PC for their patience with my nervous-Nellies. Unfortunately, as Murphy dictates, right after it arrived, I got inundated at work and haven't really had time to play with it very much.

    Some initial observations:

When I read comments in this forum -- can't remember which post -- about pictures not doing the machine justice I was a little skeptical. No longer -- you really do have to hold (and fondle?) this machine to fully appreciate the quality. I am impressed; the fit and finish are excellent. The brushed metal lid is beautiful and the solidity of the unit overall is first-rate. Unlike my old Dell, the keyboard "plate" is very solid and doesn't flex under pressure. For an old-timer like me, who learned to type on, GASP!, a MECHANICAL typewriter, and therefore really pounds the keys, this was a big plus.

I haven't been able to repartition & do the Ubuntu install, but I intend to do that this weekend. I did play LOTRO on it for a couple of hours and it runs very well and the LCD is, in a word, gorgeous. I'll be taking it to a Ruby on Rails class next week, so I'll see how the battery holds up under non-gaming conditions.

All in all, even though I am a tad bit disappointed that I couldn't wait for the M570RU, this is one very sweet laptop. :D
