Holy God, that is a lot of money. There really is no set date when these are released except mid-late May. I would see if you can get a longer warranty for that beast, as I would want to protect my $4k investment.
-
Wow, that thing sounds like its goes to be a beast... and probably the best notebook that anyone can own.
Please give us some impressions and benchmarks when you do receive it...
and hopefully be the first to give a review of this model. -
wow, yours came up to be more expensive than mine!
I have pretty much the same components except for the hard drives and OS.
My configuration includes 3 X 160GB 7200rpm RAID 0 hard drives, or 160GB more than your config.
And I chose windows xp pro instead of vista ultimate
Grand Total: $3934.01 incl. UPS 2nd day shipping
Hopefully, vista will support your SLI config or else it'll be completely useless. I chose xp pro simply because it's faster, and it works.... and aero-xp and windows blinds pretty much let me do anything I want already.... On the other hand, you'll be able to play crysis when it first releases (dx9 though)!
Actually, to be honest, and not to be a party-pooper, I'm opting to stay out of it until they release the 8700m. I really dont want to have to find out whether my laptop is upgradeable w/o having to change the motherboard, and even if it is feasible, I dont wanna spend $800-$1000 for a 8700m SLI upgrade when the option will probably be available in about 3 months.
Besides, I think it's best to wait and see whether the desktop cpu is stable in a laptop. Additionally, it's very plausible that 200GB 7200rpm hard drives will be available once the 9260 has the 8700m.... or even the seagate momentus 7200.2!
But to each his own, I just wanted to provide some different viewpoints on the matter. -
-
yes, but it's the first time for a core 2 duo in a laptop
after all, one of the reasons there was such a high rma rate for the 98xx series is because of the heat dissipation issues with the P4 (the current P4 available on a 9890 is a P4 640 3.2Ghz).
According to techreport.com, a core 2 duo E6700 (2.66 Ghz) consumes 4 watts less than the P4 640 at idle.
At peak load, the E6700 consumes 81W less than the P4 640, or consumes 38% less power than the P4 640!!
Now, despite the fact that it is quite a large difference, I'm also pretty sure that the current core 2 duo (and santa rosa) power numbers for laptops are much lower than the ones abovementioned, which raises the question of whether we'll see another 98xx rma fiasco (I think not)...

I chose vista for use later i will be installing xp pro on it when i get it. Ill use the vista for later on when its got more stuff and its all tweeked and all that crap. I dont know if i will be able to review it as i am in the military we are going camping for a month in june if i do get it in time for that i wont be able to post a review online. But dont worry i will let you all know how i enjoy it.
oh and i think warentys are a waste of time sager has lifetime tech support allready and all my computers are covered under my homeowners insurance. Take it from a former sales man never ever buy the extended warrenty -
-
Hooooly Macaroni
...
My god for the sake of your back get a good backpack...
Impressive... -
Humm, why June? Is it a coincidence or driver for Vista/SLI will appear only when M8700 GT comes out? This makes me wonder if SLI will only be supported with M8700 GT video cards and up.
Trance -
Very nice...better put all that money to go use.
-
dont worry my back can handle it im a soldier our body armor alone weights like 30 lbs plus our backpack and all that other gear. im sure 12 lbs wont bother me in the slightest
and dont worry that money will be put to very good use i will be in iraq for a year plus..... so it will keep me company when my wife wont be able to -
-
Thank you i try
-
-
then ill resell it to someone on this board
-
Quick, sticky it!
Um wait... did that come out sounding wrong? -
[So what do you guys think? Has anyone else ordered this beast yet? Is this thing even released yet? If im not mistaken it is supposed to be available on the 15th?]
Yes, I too have gone down the same path as you. Don't let anyone give you any grief over your choice(s). It's your computer, your choices, feel good about it. My order is a little different too, but I think of it more as an experiment than anything else. I went with the 1920x1200 WUXGA, 2.66GHz w/4mb L2 cache 1066MHZ FSB, ONE 7950 GTX (for now, right Pyro?) I also opted for 4,096 DDR2 5300, a Panasonic Blu-Ray DVD, 3 160GB 7200 HDs (2 in 0 raid, 1 for Dual boot. Ext floppy drive, Card reader, 1.3 Megapixel camera, TV tuner w/remote (VISTA ready), Sound Blaster LIVE, ext. speakers for travel, PRO/wireless 3945, Bluetooth, Notebook cooler, Windows Vista Ultimate 64 and 32 bit., three year everything, and lifetime tech support, one charger and other stuff. Yes, I had to order the Panasonic from another source, everything else was from xoticpc. The Dx10 compatible Vid/card Ill just wait on. Ill run a dual boot with xp pro until Vista gets onboard with SLi and the Dx10 cards become available to us. I heard that the D900c / D901c is coming out 5-21-07 give or take, so good luck with your new toy. Im pretty sure I will too. -
Looks very fun!
Just make sure you wait for a FASTER DX10 card to come out , the first few are likely to be slightly slower or no better. I think you need an 8700 GT before it starts breaking the speed barrier again..
I'll bet Nvidia is doing what they can to get some nice faster DX10 card's going for the holiday season so that the game companies can rake in the big bucks on xmas sales. Some cool new games in the works that are going to need that extra muscle if you plan on running them maxed. -
Torque, let us know how that Panasonic Blu-Ray works out for you. Which model did you get, the slot load or the tray?
-
I did not go with 4 gigs of ram as i have been running 2 gigs in my desktop for years and 2 gigs today is more then enough. And for the upgrade price it wasnt worth it. I found 2 gig stick of ram used in the this machine for 249 each on tigerdirect. So after i pay off the credit card for this beast ill buy the ram and upgrade it myself. I didnt have the option for a blue ray burner from powernotebooks.com however i didnt care either. The owner of powernotebooks called me and told me that it is supposed to be available on the 20th
-
I also have been running only 2 gigs of mem running XP Pro - XP Home and XP-64bit. Now I've chosen to run Vista Ultimate and I want to play with the ram and Vista, the blu-ray etc. As I said, it is an experiment and I consider all this just a toy. I’ve played with the XP64bit and found it to be very very fast, but too limited in its acceptance (not even a driver for my laser printer) As for the Blu-Ray, I’ve set aside the funds for the Panasonic UJ-225 but haven’t heard back from Opticstor if it will work with Vista. Besides, its not available till June 22nd, so Xoticpc will install their dual DVD and I’ll use it till I find a Blu-Ray that I like and is compatible. Justin says the dimensions are ok, 5.07 x 5.03 x 0.5” but I want to be sure at least to some degree it’ll work (great).
-
well i do hope you enjoy your rig as much as i will mine
its gonna have to do for me in iraq anyway -
So let me say this; THANK YOU! And I'm sorry that we have to put "our boys in harms way" in Iraq. I have two teenage sons here at home and hope they don't have to face the dangers men like yourself do because you are willing to do what is necessary. So enjoy your new laptop, stay safe, fix those choppers, and get back here alive and in one piece. Tell your buddies over there the same, you are appreciated. Be: cool:
PS let us know when you get it and I'll do the same. We'll call it a race (for fun) Then you'll let us all know what you think of it, right? -
sound like a plan. I really need to have mine before the 28th cause im going on a trip to the field for the month of june so that would pretty much blow my 30 day pixel guarantee if its sitting here in a box for that 30 days
-
aka: hotter than Iraq, but no where near the same number of car bombings and drive bys.
-
is that the beast that every1 is talking about with 3 HDDs and 2 GFX cards?
Nice one. -
yes it is.
-
-
Can or would you want to Raid 0 Three HD and partition for dual boot (50%/50%)? And secondly, seeing how there is a possibility of 8800s never fitting into the 9260, I'm going for the faster memory, (but 2 gig less) and two 7950s in SLi. Yes or no? And I think you're going to win the race, but I'm not giving up yet.
