The d901c uses mxm 2.1, right? Like this one:

    NVIDIA GTX 280M - MXM 2.1 TYPE III - eBay (item 110615061100 end time Feb-20-11 10:17:55 PST)

Sorry, I don't like to make big purchases without making sure, and I always trust the individuals on this forum for confirmation and not being short with those who are not, I should say, on their level, lol. (Me, for instance).

While I'm at it, is this also compatible:

    INTEL X25-M 80GB SSD SSDSA2MH080G2R5 (Gen2) Retail NEW - eBay (item 350436769821 end time Feb-09-11 15:24:39 PST)

    Thank you :)

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the GTX 280M you linked will work in a D901C so long as you have BIOS .22 and KBC .13N on your machine. However, it will NOT work in SLI, so keep that in mind. You will be limited to 1x GTX 280m.

That SSD should work fine. I'm using a Gen2 160GB Intel SSD + Windows 7 in my D901C. It's been working great for well over a year now!

There are other stores which are not on ebay which sell those. The mxm-upgrade seemed reasonable, but there were others as well. Thought the one you indicated seems also quite reasonable.

Yes, I recently upgraded the bios and kbc to those versions. I just got my student loans in and need to junk my crap 8800m gtx (I'm gonna try the bake method and try to use it as a ppu). I'm getting windows 7 and want to clean install it on a speedy new ssd. I can't wait. I haven't had a fully functional laptop in almost half of a year :)

    Thanks!

Individuals selling the card were the cheapest I could find. Do you have any personal recommendations? If I can purchase them cheaper I will. (I was going to offer $450 for the card and go from there)

    You and I both, lol.

Should I just purchase 3700m? I could get it for about 200 bucks cheaper.

Do I need to do anything very complicated to allow the 3700m to be read as a 280m?

To make sure, the 3700m and the 280m are physically identical in every way, correct?

If it's not too complicated to accomplish, I may just go with the 3700m. It's difficult to distinguish myth and fact between the two cards when discourse surrounding both sides are prominent on this forum, lol (debates regarding the card comparisons, I mean). I sifted through a lot of them and from what I've read, I think I may just go ahead and purchase the 3700m.

    Opinions? Suggestions? Naysayers?

    Thanks!

No, as far as I can remember it is true.

Since the mxm 2.1 III 280m GTX hasn't have the smaller die of the newer mxm standard I think it was close to identical to the fx3700m, though I think the 3700 is optimized for cad-applications and so on. I think I've read that you can safely flash it with the 280's values and it'll work just as well.

It has been a while since I informed myself about this though, so take it with a grain of salt please.
