I purchased my sager 5793 with the 1600reso screen. 8800gtx. when i turned it on it seemed dim so i brightened up with the function key and f9 all the way. it seemed a little brighter. I started to play Age of Conan which was really dark. Compared to my friends 2 dell notebooks and gateway 6831 my sager was significantly darker. It is even hard to see at times in the game. I even adjusted the games gamma and brightness and Nvidias Settings.

I received an email from Sager tech support telling me to reset my BIOS which i did and had no effect.

Has anyone experienced this? What can i do?
I have pictures if anyone is interested.

everything else is perfect. it is just too dark. =(

    Some screens are just dim.
Check your manufacturer and post it .

Ah, yes I have the same issue as you.
When playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I have to turn the gamma-setting in the options all the way to max, to be able to see anything at night.

But if I use my external screen, it's way enough to have the gamma-setting 1/3 to the max.

I think we can conclude that the 1600-res screens on this notebook just sucks.

Sounds like a dim screen. If you know that the in-game gamma settings and your monitor's brightness are both maxed out, there's not much more you can do. However, if for some reason things are getting much darker in the game than they are in just...general Windows use, then it seems that it may be a software thing?

Doesn't the "brightness" key on the keyboard just control the cards brightness? It seems all that would do is wash out the image. It doesn't control the backlight does it?

If you're getting a really, really dim backlight, I think about checking out the cable and the inverter for physical damage and to see if they're still performing to spec.

No, the function key brightness control the brightness of the backlight. In-game gamma settings control the card's brightness

    I'll spill "dim screen" too.
If you can return it, do so. It`s the part you`ll have the most contact with.

That's pretty cool. I thought it just messed with the GPU's brightness. I believe the 9262 has a brightness control as well?

Every laptop(younger than 2000) has brightness increase buttons. Fn+F8,F9 usually.

This is the first time I have heard of the 5793 not having a very bright screen. In the official review Chaz even said:

"If I did not say this is one of the best-looking displays I have seen on a 17-inch notebook, I would be lying. Contrast is excellent - blacks are deep and whites are stark - and the brightness level is high as well, noticeably more so than my HP w2207 desktop monitor."

Why is he saying 1 thing while many of you are saying the opposite?

I don't know but this is my #1 concern for the 9262 when it arrives soon. Im very very picky on LCD quality so i'll give my honest input here.

I have a APP9C69 monitor, which people have been complaining was dim. I find that it is bright enough for me. When i got it I actually had to turn the brightness down a bit. Its fine in games for me.

I have the same screen in a Matte version and I keep it turned up one notch. If I turn it up 2-3, it hurts my eyes a little bit.

I have APP9C69 too. so is there anyway I can boost the brightness besides messing up with gamma settings?

If I`m not mistaken, Chaz reviewed the same screen as mine, and I already posted videos and pics so you guys know it`s bright and has good viewing angles.

No, you cannot. But I`m pretty sure you can afford a new screen, PM Zfactor , he tried a million of them and he knows which is the brightest.

IMO the APP9C69 panel in the 5793 is quite dim compared to all other notebooks ive had, tho ive seen some HP's which have even less "power on the light side". I compared this with my old fujitsu after I got it and the fujitsu was brighter, by a good margin. Im not saying that its not a nice screen and its too dark or anything, just a little getting used to and its fine, altho im running with max brightness most of the time... It really got some nice colors compared to the fujitsu tho :)
