So, I have done clean installs and upgrades before, but I have never attempted to install windows on a brand new computer. Is it the same as a clean install/upgrade or is it more complicated? Do I just pop in the CD and boot from it?
Thank you for any suggestions or guidance.

It's the same thing as a clean install AFAIK...have fun!

Yes, you will need to boot from the CD. You might need to go into the BIOS by pressing F2 when your machine first turns on and set it to boot from cd drive.
What version of Windows do you plan on installing? -
vista home premium 64 bit

It's ok, you just install the OS, and then whatever drivers you deem necessary.

As everyone has said, it is exactly the same. There is a website that I like to reference when a customer has questions about reinstalling windows. http://www.windowsreinstall.com. Just choose your version of windows from the top, and then choose how you would like to install, and it gives you a visual step-by-step guide.

yep. easy. the hardest thing you MIGHT have to do is configure your system BIOS to boot from the CD drive before the HDD. It may already be set up that way. If not, you can easily make that change. Then, with the Windows DVD in the drive, boot it up, and it'll partition your drive and install the OS. After that, load up the drivers you need (MAKE SURE you have 64bit drivers if you're loading up Vista x64!!)

WARNING:
I recommend you load the AHCI drivers during installation if you have a SATA drive that supports it (provided you're going to run Vista...or want to deal with the hassle of setting it up for XP). -
I didn't realize I ordered a clean hard drive until I received my computer, but it was no problem installing windows. The bios is already set up to boot from a cd first, so just pop in the cd and install!
I ordered a 5796 with drivers and utilities only...
