I've almost started to forget that I ordered it, until I look at my CC balance.

Ordered Oct 5th from GenTech, with rush build, delivered damaged ( fault to UPS ), returned, and a severe lack of communication ever since. Still waiting.

If the new macbook pros weren't such a joke, I don't know how I could ever recommend this route. Still excited about the new machine, if it isn't obsolete by the time it's delivered.

I get frustrated in times like that as well. All I can do is encourage you to be patient. You will have it soon enough.

Mind telling us what you got?

    NP9152 ( p750dm2-g ) , i7 6700k , 4K QFHD, gtx 1070. I'm sitting on 32 gb of ballistix 2400 , and a 256 gb 950pro that I bought myself.

I realize there's been a backorder or two in this time, so I guess my frustration there is that I only learned about that because of lurking on this forum. The latest word was 5 days ago with simply "We're working on the new one."

I should also mention, as I mentioned in my interactions with customer service, I had ordered this specifically for a project to commence over Halloween weekend - and had to scramble for a last minute fix when they would not say one way or the other if it was possible to have a replacement in time. I'd rather hear "No" than nothing at all.

The claims process takes awhile. With the holidays right around the corner, it might take a little longer than usual, even. Hopefully they don't fight GenTech on it so that you can get your order ASAP.

Did you sign for it, or reject it?

I did sign for it , but from now on will definitely do more thorough inspections of my high-value packages. It was such a minor puncture in the box, imagine somebody stabbing it with a long screwdriver.. Through 4" of double box and styrofoam to damage the computer. I only noticed after opening. Of course, I started the claims about 15 minutes after delivery.

I think that process is over though, the computer was already returned and delivered to California ( I'm on the east coast ).

I've on the receiving end of more than a few of these claims, carriers will drag their feet a lot but they usually end up honoring the claim. Unfortunately that does mean waiting, even it's arrived back to them. It's in any reseller's best interests to get claims like this resolved as fast as possible so they're likely bugging UPS constantly behind the scenes for you.

If it came straight from us then send me the order information and I could have a look.

Very nice build. What are you going to do with 32GB of ram if you don't mind me asking?

It's main purpose will be a VJ machine ( projector mapping , live show visuals , some video rendering etc ).. although I'm more often a sound engineer , so also audio tracking and such. Definitely going to be dabbling in some virtual machines as my main audio rig is a Mac , so much of my work flow is still based in Apple software.

This will be my first PC in about a decade , so i wanted to come back with a bang.

I don't understand. If you order a laptop from a vendor and it's damaged in transit the buyer needs to wait for the seller to receive a claim payment from the shipper before a replacement is sent? What happens if the shipper denies the claim? The buyer ends up footing the bill? Is this common practice? I sincerely hope I'm completely misunderstanding this but, if not, why is the absolute only party in the selling/shipping/purchasing chain not responsible for the damage the one being penalized?

    In most cases, yes.

That's up to the seller. We've bitten the bullet on cases like this (where a claim was denied), rather than leave the customer empty handed.

But how do you know they're not responsible? (Not an implication against the OP there.) The claims process is in place to determine which party is liable. It's just a shame that the investigation takes so long.

Can you describe a scenario to me where the buyer could possibly be responsible for a package damaged in transit? I think I'm totally missing something here. Is it safe to assume that the buyer must sign for a package when a laptop is shipped? If they see the box is damaged and refuse to sign they'll still be forced to wait for the seller and shipper to reach a conclusion?

I think they would assign blame to the buyer if they thought the damage happened after delivery.

My problem with this is exactly how my scenario played out : somebody else in my household signed for it , and even if I had seen it am I expected to refuse every package at first sign of possible damage ? This happened with a small puncture to the side of an otherwise sturdy and clean looking box. I -think- my claim is being handled correctly , but if the replacement box shows up with scuffs should I add more delay just in case ? This was a time sensitive purchase.

Am eager to post my impressions then.

Never, I'm assuming. What I was driving at was the buyer signed for it; once it's in their possession, UPS may or may not assign blame to the recipient. Alternatively, they can blame the seller for poor packaging, etc.

Upon receipt, yes - or they can deny it. The buyer here wasn't unreasonable about opening the package to inspect it. We've received packages with crippled corners and minor punctures, yet there was no damage to the item.

I'm glad to hear that UPS isn't giving anyone a hard time, and that @badgerbadger is getting a replacement soon.

If I receive a damaged parcel I will give the delivery driver two options, either stand there while I quickly open it and inspect it or it goes back.

You just have to watch out that less scrupulous drivers may place the parcel down to hide an area that shows damage. Take it, check it over quickly, then sign.

So unfortunately the package was requested returned to sender. Sager shipped the replacement, and then received the damaged item, and asked if I had swapped some missing hard drives, things that I had not ordered.

So they're taking it back to remove the extra items they installed in the replacement. Now I'm waiting for a while longer.

My biggest take away so far -
DO NOT ORDER FROM GENTECH. I would rather have ordered direct from Sager. I do not believe there is any price differential. I am currently contemplating the merits of canceling my order to start anew with Sager directly ( headaches for all involved ). I can understand some of the circumstances that are leading to this delay, but I am EXTREMELY unsatisfied and unhappy with this entire process.

I remain excited for getting to use this new machine.. some day.
