I should be getting my computer next week and I was wondering what I should use to test it out?
Sager NP5790
I already have PCMark05, 3DMark05 and 06.

mattireland It used to be the iLand..
You should definitely use SuperPi to test your processor - see this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=41097
Other than that, just put it through it's paces e.g. video editing e.t.c. and see how it performs.
Good luck and I'm sure you'll love it! It's a good notebook and I love 17"s. -
Again.... SuperPI is a useless program in today's era of multi-cores.
Its single-threaded, inaccurate, and a poor benchmark for any multi-core system.
Use wPrime for true multi-core benchmarking.

Gophn, you're pretty evangelical about wPrime, eh?
Though I agree with you anyway...
HD Tach? or HD Tune? I forgot the name. -

its HD tune.

Gophn and Chaz, could y'all please post a "how to run benchmark tests" guideline and make it a sticky for us ign'rant newbies, or has that already been posted somewhere.

aren't benchmarks like 3dmark 05 and 06 straightforward enough? Just download, install, run it, and be happy with you score. Correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah, they're pretty straightforward when I ran them. but i was wondering if there was something more that the x'perts with their enlightened insights can impart to us ign'rant newbies who ain't too spiffy with interpreting the data and numbers.

3DMark is pretty useless outside of very specific circumstances. It's great to track changes across one machine when upgrading hardware or drivers, or to compare two very similar machines from the same generation. However, its usefulness fades when used to compare widly different machines or computers from different generations, which will inevitably happen if you post your benchmarks. I'm not saying don't run it- do so, if only to track performance changes across driver updates and hardware upgrades- but don't take it as the gospel.
In-game benchmarks are much more effective. Games like FEAR and HL2: Lost Coast contain in-game benchmarks that are much more effective for comparative purposes than 3DMark.
Xtreme systems has a thread which lists good benchmarks that are also hard to fake. Scroll down to post 10 for the reliable benchmarks list.
