I think I have narrowed it down to either sagernotebook.com or pctorque.com.

Is pctorque.com safe/reliable? I have chosen them because their prices are similar and almost lower than Sager's. Also, is the $200 0 dead pixel warranty worth it? Another reason I would buy form pctorque is becuase I can buy an accidental damage warranty that sager doesn't appear to offer.
    Please share your thoughts. :D

and i'm also wondering what is the Core 2 duo and quad of the i7 1.73ghz. and is the $300+ price tag of the extreme edition worth it?

The price tag of the 920xm isn't worth it. the 820qm is more like the sweet spot. you can find the info the turbo mode here.

heh, now back to my original topic :D

I'm still leaning towards pctorque because they have a "Manufacturer's Accidental Damage Warranty" which is cool and weird at the smae time because Sager doesn't offer that.

That can't be.. They have the exact same prices. I mean all the parts are the SAME price lol.. how could you have a 200$ difference?

If you do have a 200$ difference, you can make them price-match. All the Sager resellers do that (hence the same prices on all sites).

My vote would go first for xoticpc, then powernotebooks, then pctorque. But they all are great companies. If you want accidental coverage tho, you don't have a choice, it's pctorque :p

I can back Justin up with going with the XoticPC/Safeware combination. I recently bought my Sager for college and I was debating on who to get it from. I was initially going to go with PCTorque as well but after hearing such rave reviews I decided to look into Xotic. I talked with both Justin and Joseph at Xotic over the course of about two months and they were both great. Justin answered the numerous questions I had promptly and was always willing to help me out and never pressured me towards anything. When it came time to order Joseph helped me put my order through and get exactly what I needed when I needed it. When I talked to PCtorque they were great but the level of service i received from Xotic was phenomenal and I could not recommend a reseller more.

As for Safeware I think its definately better than PC Torques offering too. PC Torque will make you ship the laptop back to Sager directly to get anything fixed and they will also only let you switch parts out with Sager approved parts in order to keep the warranty valid. I.E. if you upgrade and put in an HDD that Sager doesnt approve then you have invalidated your warranty and they wont fix the problem. When I talked to Safeware they told me I could do whatever I wanted to the computer and it would still be covered. Furthermore they have repair facilities located around the country and their turnaround time is days as opposed to over a week with Sager. On top of this you also get theft and fire protection, two things you wont get with PC Torques warranty.

To conclude I hope this makes your decision a little easier. I remember how tough it was when I was making it but Im glad I went with Xotic and they were great to me so I feel I should pass my experience along. Im sure you wont go wrong with either company but I have no regrets with my decision

Do note, back a few years there was a company called ATS, they provided the accidental coverage and additional warranty and they went belly up. I lost about some years of coverage and accidental with this for my Sager 9750 - so I said, never again - stick with the Sager instead of a 3rd party warranty. At least now Sager offers a 3 yr - back then Sager only offered 1 yr max warranty only.

The reseller at that time did NOTHING for many us in that situation, so recent Sager 5797 business and other future business will go to XoticPC or Powernotebook.

This time it was XoticPC as they offered a great skin option for their laptop, I just love mine :)

that's a tough decision for me... backlit keyboard or awesome power and future security?

hmm... I'll take the keyboard! no wait, the awesomeness? :D

And is the $200 zero dead pixel warranty worth it? or will the insurance take care of that?

I really enjoy XoticPC's fast email response. My 5796 came in great shape and with no dead pixels.

I'm annoyed that they don't sell individual video cards for upgrades, but that's a minor complaint.

Well I bought M860 from rjtech, and my cousin a 2098 from Pctorque. The combination of price and warranty is unbeatable in pctorque. The only downside is that they have to give the order to sager..so the notebook takes like a week to ship. Pctorque FTW! well if your patient

imo - nope, not unless you're a purist. spend that money somewhere else. i doubt the insurance will take care of it. there's a certain "allowance" for dead pixels in certain areas. if it's a concern, go read the faq/warranty from each of the reseller sites before buying. i didn't bother with the dead pix on my 5797.

well, i guess if it get dead pixels with insurnce, I'll just have to get it stolen. :D

You may have a point, but I can get insurance that covers everything for $60 more than the warranty, and it covers more than just damage.

Why would you need to pay $60 more for insurance that covers more than just damage? That is already covered by the standard warranty. I assume you are referring to a standard warranty for issues such as dead motherboards, video card malfunctions, etc... If that is the case, then the standard Sager warranties already cover that and PC Torque offers standard warranties (through Sager) beyond three years.

Let me say that while I purchased mine from RJTech and assembled it, in retrospect I should have gone with an actual reseller who warranties the whole thing. RJTech is perfectly fine for what they do but I haven't found their support to be particularly helpful.

I remember when I talked to you about getting a warranty I was informed by one of your sales reps(perhaps even you, I dont exactly remember) that your accidental warranty only covered accidental damage and not things that were the result of wear and tear. And yes while Sager does cover that they only cover it for a year and and after that PCTorque only covers labor, not parts. While it is true you also offer a parts and labor standard extended warranty I was informed that if I wanted wear and tear covering as well as accidental coverage I would have to buy both extended warranties which would mean I would be paying around 400-600 dollars for a warranty. Furthermore Safeware covers things such as Fire and Theft which your accidental warranty does not cover. Correct me if I am wrong about any of this and I am not trying to say that PCTorque is a bad reseller by any means but I am just attempting to relay the information that I know to the OP because I know when I was looking to purchase I wanted all the information I could get. Im just trying to help him find the best deal possible.

Thanks for your input Dan and for your contribution to the forum on this issue. I would be skeptical of any warranty that states it covers fire and theft, as there are usually strict limitations on such policies that place stringent requirements on the successful filing of these claims (making the service they are selling useless). Our position is that as the people who build and assemble these notebooks, Sager is in the best position to repair them rather than a third party company that may end up using parts that void your warranty altogether. In any event, consumers as a whole will be the final judge on this issue.

That's why I would never buy again from the company in question. The silence on their own forum about the ATS situation was deafening.

So, have we settled on if the insurance was better than the AD warranty?
