As I've heard many good words about the Clevo M570RU, I'm thinking of buying it.

Main reason is that it seems to have very good upgrade possibilities with MXM 3 and 4. So after a year or two I might upgrade to the 8800M GTX and if hopefully possible, the next gen video-cards (9800M GTX).

I've got mainly one question before I decide to purchase this laptop:

I live in Norway, and I'm purchasing it from USA. Does there exist any Norwegian keyboards compatible with the M570RU?

If you're buying it without the 8800M GTX, you better make sure that you are at least getting the motherboard that will allow you to upgrade to the 8800M.

Otherwise, you may end up with an older motherboard (since I"m sure they can ship those out faster) and find that your upgrade path will consist of having to swap out both motherboard and card.

if you buy a motherboard with anything other than a 8800M GTX, then you will not be able to upgrade without a mobo swap.

for example, the 5791 will only support a 8700M GT right now, but will not be able to upgrade to the 8800M GTX, unless the mobo is upgraded and it becomes a '5792'

    actually... thats not entirely correct.

The current and previous revision of the Clevo M570RU can actually upgrade to the 8800M GTX.

... there is only a small S3 issue (standby/suspend will not work correctly).

But if you are buying a brand new unit, just get the latest revision... which does not have any issues with the new 8800M GTX.

never count on clevo laptops to be upgradeable regardless if it's advertised or percieved as such.

if you want an 8800 you have to buy it right away... a laptop is like a TV or a videogame console... you cant upgrade it...

Actually I think upgrading a TV or a game console might be easier. More parts available. :) Just buy the 5792 version, that way you are sure you can use 8800 with no problems. Unless the the S3 issue is not a concern to you.

Thanks for all the replies, guys.

Okay, if the only issue is the S3 issue, I can live with that. I never use standby or suspend mode anyways.

Also, does anybody know if there exists any Norwegian keyboard for the M570RU? This is actually my biggest concern. I can't have a laptop with english keyboard...

I would ask your reseller or contact Sager about that directly. It should be an option but it might cost you extra. (Not sure about the cost just a guess) It never hurts to ask questions most of the resellers are there to make you the customer happy.

Most Clevo vendors can order other keyboard languages for you.

If your struggling on where to purchase your clevo from here's my recent story:

I purchased my m570u just under a year ago from R&J Tech. Unfortunately about a week ago my system stopped working suddenly one morning. I sent it back to them, they replaced the video card for free, paid for the return shipping, and on top of that replaced my keyboard which I had damaged a key on for free also!

    Hmm,

Well the problem is that I'm buying this from another forum-member in another forum. So the question is if I can buy a single keyboard from any of the producers when I have not bought the system from them...

just call sager and see if they have it. they are the biggest clevo reseller in america so it's your best shot.

and if you are buying the notebook from another person it would mean your motherboard is not fully compliant with the 8800gtx and you will lose sleep mode. it means if you try to wake your system from sleep mode the computer will crash and you will be forced to cold boot.

But...it can still accept the 8800M GTX if you 'really' want one and are willing to live without the sleep mode.

The 7950GTX is powerful but the 8800M GTX is like having 2x7950GTX's in SLI. It's a definate upgrade.

I hope your getting a good deal on the notebook. Price out a new one with the componets he/she has and compare what a new one would cost vs his asking price. Also check to see if he/she still has a warranty and if its transferable.

Hope it works out for you!

    Thanks for all your replies.
I've mailed sager about the norwegian keyboard.

Also, what revision will the motherboard at least need to be in order to work at all with the 8800M GTX? (I don't mind the S3 issue)

Any M570RU motherboard should support the 8800M GTX, regardless of revision.

    Okay thank you.
But where could I possibly get a hold of a 8800M GTX when it's released? I need it shipped to Norway too...

If you need it shipped to Norway, you may also want to check for more local Clevo resellers to cut down on shipping prices.

Yes, they should be able to order directly from Clevo. They do make replacement parts.
