I love this laptop and it's capabilities. This may be a deadbeat topic but does anyone enjoy Vista on their laptop? Luckily I took an image of my laptop when I had Windows XP32bit prior to installing Vista 64bit. My 3dmark06 scores for what I have tried:
    XP 32bit: 9387
    Vista 64bit: 9087
    Vista 64bit /w Service Pack 1: 9124

Although the difference doesn't seem all too much it really is. Vista does not "feel" faster as I thought it might. Disk copying/transfering just seems so slow compared to XP.. but it's a little better in service pack 1. I'm really trying to like Vista but it compromises performance too much. Can someone tell me why they like using Vista?

i have vista on my laptop, after the initial install of vista it seemed slow and unresponive, however i found after all the updates its preety stable and fast.

as for the copying of files and transfers. xp is coded to appear faster, when in fact its not, so its diffucult to compare with vista.

it's still the fastest mobile GPU, even in DX9 mode.

Agreed. But Vista is far better than what it was upon release, ya know ;) And definitely WAY better than how XP was upon release, which XP fans now so lovingly embrace! :)

I wholeheartedly recommend going back to XP. XP is more stable, faster, and better for gaming than Vista. Vista has a lot of bloat and in my experience, a headache. You should get better battery life with XP too.

While I like Vista, copying files is significantly slower in Vista than in XP, due to the changes in the file copy algorithm. You can find a detailed discussion of this on http://blogs.technet.com/markrussin...826167.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

No, the problem is not fixed. The transfer times are improved except for some important cases, such as copying a file to the same hard disk or copying small files to a Win2K3 server. However even with SP1 the performance is significantly slower than XP. Please look at the article I linked, it discusses this in detail.

This statement is probably very true; however, since we spent a lot of blood/sweat/tears working through XP's idiosyncracies until it reached the point it is at today, that effort should not be lightly dismissed; there is no reason to throw out XP for Vista until/unless Vista manages to achieve at least the same level of stability, performance, and efficiency as we have with XP currently (although, since MS has already begun making significant public noises about Windows 7, Vista may be fated to remain nothing more than the ME version of WinXP :D ).

EDIT: Yeah, I know, XP and efficient are typically not placed in conjunction (except as a negation); however, keep in mind this is a comparison, so the only relevant measure is comparative efficiency inter sese, not absolute efficiency or cross-OS efficiency.

Yup... wonder what Windows 7 has in store for us ? And it just sickens me that I'm actually BUYING an OS now (with my new laptop), that being Vista, when I already know a newer one is coming and currently being made :\

Don't I know it. Of course, if MS isn't real careful, it may find that it's lost a lot of otherwise heretofor loyal Windows users to linux in the meantime (notwithstanding that dealing with linux can sometimes be a bit like trying to herd cats - and no, I'm not dissing linux :D ).

No you're right... as online communities grow and as simple computer users become more tech savvy, they'll get more exposure to Linux and in masses, they'll eventually start trying it and liking it... And well... you know ;)
