I'm planning on buying a P170HM and I'm trying to find if the ICD7 will make a big enough difference to warrant the cost. I actually have a fair amount of AS5 that I use with all the desktops I've built in the past. So would it do any better of a job then it?

It is definitely worth the upgrade. If you don't want to have your seller do it for you buy a tube and do it yourself. Sager machines are easy to open up and access the CPU. :)

AS5 is good. Since you already have it, go for it, use it. I have used it many times with very good results :)

Either will be better than the stock paste ... if you can grab a tube of IC7 easily, I would definitely use that over the AS5.

I used AS on all my desktop builds for a long time with great results ... but switching to IC7 made a very noticeable difference to the stability of my overclocks and overall temps.
