Laptops are different to desktops, there are more layers to the firmware.

The micro-code was for sure bugged when using with laptop BIOS, but MMTool by itself works fine, and I updated the iRST module and something else on my MSI BIOS with UBU and it worked fine, but its not a tool that should be used by the normal user that doesn't understand what its really doing.

Whenever I used MMTool my PC bricks to black screen, I always get Warning that "Saving as non EFI BIOS" after patching microcode.

You need to patch MMTool so it works with APTIO 5 BIOS or that happens and it indeed results in a corrupted BIOS file.

You can patch MMtool 5.0.7? I tried patched 5.02.25/27 and even it failed!

According to your info page you are using one of those China cross-flash BIOS with a 9th gen CPU on your Z170 board.

You may want to read their thread, but pretty sure that those firmware can not be ME security patched at all.

Edit: Yep, the OP for those BIOS says:" Make sure you DO NOT UPDATE your Intel management engine firmware at all"

Edit 2: Just added an additional warning to the OP.

Using an officially Z170 supported CPU like 6th or 7th gen should bring your system back to life and let you reflash with whatever they are using.

Back from the dead. Basically what happened there was sort of this. By flashing Premas security updates on Dsankes modified BIOS, Intel ME from 11.6.xxx got updated to 11.8.xxx, which caused a soft brick. Thanks to Premas advise got myself a cheapest 6st generation CPU of eBay. Laptop booted no problem. 60 quid. Re-flashed Dsankes BIOS and boom It works again Intel ME got flashed back to 11.6.xxx version. Laptop boots happy days. £4000 worth of laptop works again :D. BTW its BIOS.ROM not BIOS.BIN @dsanke

You could flip the CPU on ebay again too.

So, for my friend's sager 9870, he never did any of this

    1) I should get the 11.x IME file, get that done.

    2) Should I also get the INFINEON stuff as well? I don't recall what I did with mine exactly.

    3) From https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4497165, should I install "2020-01 Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4497165)"?

    Much thanks!

    Hi@all,

did anybody mod their Clevo Bios to use the Microcode Glitch that allows Overclocking on any Intel CPU ?

i found a Guide on a other Forum but I can’t do it for my self.

could anybody replicate that mod with the Guide I found ?

Please PM me if you can do such mod.
I’ll then share the Guide with you.
And if mod is Sucessful I donate 100€ Via Paypal for your Service ;).

Its not stable, and that only worked for Haswell, as far as I know, and if the CPU is locked, its a pretty crappy die because it was not good enough to be binned as an K cpu, better to put those 100€ into a K CPU if your laptop takes socketed CPUs, or into a fund for a new laptop, OC'ed Haswell via that micro-code will need lots of voltage, and its mostly useful to bench, not to daily drive..
My 4720HQ is only stable at near 1.4V and thats for a 300Mhz gain, yes, it scores like 850 points on CB R15, but OC'ing the RAM puts it at 720-730 CB R15 points and its stable..
