Well well it seems i was not that wrong after all!!

In reference to : New Intel 4965AGN coming my way...

I wasn't able to connect at N speeds with my new 4965AGN. But as one stated not all client cards are compatible with all routers.

I started to check a bit more on Intel's website for more informations on 4965AGN and stumble on this hint:

So I was screwed with my Linksys. Must not be the same chipsets or whatever.

Then we had a nice deal at BestBuy on the D-Link DIR-655 and this one had nice reviews. Why not grab one and return it if it doesn't work? I grabed one :).

    Here's the result:

Keep in mind that i am now on the 4th floor of my house. My router is in the basement, and we have a mezzanine in the ceiling. So the signal is quite up and down, but I never loose it.

So IT FREAKING WORKS! Look at the number of antennas used!!

    In a nutshell:
    1. Buy 4965AGN from your favorite reseller. I got it for 60$ cdn.
    2. Find a set of 2 antennas with the irose connector. best place is on ebay and it cost about 10$.
    3. Fn-F11 to turn WiFi OFF7
    4. Uninstall 3945ABG drivers / reboot / install 4965AGN drivers.
    5. Open underside cover and replace the Wifi card.
    6. Now it certainly not the best place, but you'll have to stick your 2 new antennas under the hood. I put them on the frame of the copper cooler, just close to the exhaust grille. The surface is flat, and allows internal routing of the antennas to the new card. I plugged main antenna in #1 connector, and the 2 others in #2 and #3.
    7. Install drivers and enjoy!

So I guess I'll have my couple minutes of hero time after all!!! :D

Now I just have to see if my linksys client can connect at over 54mbps on the router. Can't do that right now, but will test it for sure.

    Another note:
WEP is not compatible with N. To use N, user MUST use WPA security.

the antennas are really whats preventing good and stable signals with the new wireless-N cards.

Many have modded their Napa notebooks with the wireless-N cards and redid the antenna cables to run behind the LCD panel.

Well, I haven't tried my lappy on the first floor to see. But just upgrading from linksys to D-link XtremeN go my main PC on the first floor to get a stable 300mbps connection.

Well I won't mod my notebook to dismantle my LCD lol. So my signal will be ok like this. My point was that a 4965AGN can be installed in the 5760 with a relatively easy mod of adding two antennas :D.
