    If a Sager/Clevo P170EM is fitted with a 17.3" Matt LED 1080p 72% Gamut
screen that I think has the part code AUO B173HW01 V.5, how will this
be represented in the Hardware ids section of Device Manager in
    Windows 7 ?

Just use HWiNFO32's Monitor tab. Should give you the make of the monitor.

What to you mean by "how", exactly? Typically the hardware id gives you the make and model; if you're looking for a part number, that's not listed in Device Manager as far as I know, and is only obtainable through spec sheets or via going to the manufacturer for the info.

HWinfo may give you additional info, such as the serial number and hardware ID, but I don't know if anything listed under the monitor tab provides the specific part number.

I would like to know what would appear there if I had the AUO B173HWO1 V.5 installed. I want to make sure a computer I have been sold that is supposed to have been fitted with this monitor - (as a premium upgrade option that I had waited several months to be back in stock) - truly is that component. The last time it was sent to me, and supposed to be the stated screen, the Device Monitor's Hardware ids in Generic PnP Monitor's Details revealed that I had actually been sent a standard Chi-Mei display. The Chi-Mei was represented by the code "CMO1720".

I imagined that anyone who knows that they definitely have the 1080p AUO LED 72% Gamut monitor fitted could just have a look in Windows to see what it says. I hope it says more than just AUO and a size because I don't want to have been sent another screen that does not match the spec's I have paid for - and if I have, I want to be able to KNOW so that I can do something about it.

Sometimes it shows and sometimes it doesnt. When you run HWInfo you'll see "Monitor" on the left, you can expand that and pick one of those monitors then in the right pane under Description it may show the model number. It did show the exact model on my Windows 7 Asus, but my current Windows 8 computer does not show it.
