    Hey guys,

I bought an NP8170 I think it is, a single GPU 17" Clevo anyways, from Sager, with a 6970m.

I'm considering undervolting, I guess I have to use Ati Tray tools for that. My fan speeds on idle are at 30%, GPU Temp around 50°. It sounds like it's louder than it should be. What do you think?

I've noticed the same thing, I asked my supplier and they said it would be fixed through a bios. Would like it soon, it's pretty annoying to hear a fan at full speed when CPU and GPU temps are at like 30 and 43.

Any luck with the Fn + 1 keyboard shortcut? Or does it just switch between what it is now and full blast?

for me FN+1 just seems to cycle between full, off or the one where it switches constantly.

Any idea when this bios update will arrive? I'm in the planning stage of buying a 8170 with a GTX560 and this problem would seem to be annoying/distracting.

Well it seems I missed this thread...

This is exactly what happens to my system (P170HM)

    Doesn't sound right..
I have this same machine, and the fan noise is low, even while gaming. To reduce the fan noise even further you can use a notebook cooler, but the full throttle speed is overkill IMO, and should only be used if you are using your pc in ambient 40C or overclocking.

I did notice that the fan is on full throttle after coming back from hibernate once in a while (search this forum, it has been discussed before).

    Good luck!

Well I had read in the Bios thread about an older clevos bio which works, however it will brick your machine if you go to clevos then to a sager bios later. I'll wait for something a bit more official from sager, but hopefully it's fixed soon.

Hmm didn't know that Clevo and Sager hardware differs enough for the bios to brick... good to know.

Apparently, if you go with a clevo bios it will work but once you go with a either a clevo or sager bios you must keep with them and cannot switch back.

What are you using to measure fan speed? Since the fan speed is controlled by the bios, programs don't give a proper read of the fan speed. For instance, my 6970 is locked at 30% fan speed in Trixx even when I hit FN + 1.

If you purchased from us, you can only use the Clevo bios. You will never want to use the Sager bios as that may brick the machine. You can just follow the instructions in that bios thread :)

I use my ears to measure fan speed. I've had laptops for years- never have I been bothered by fan noise. And this is even bothersome when I'm watching a movie, for instance. The 30% I suggested were from catalyst control center, I realize now though that the fan in question is the CPU fan.

Another thread suggested going back to KBC/EC v. 1.00.06, however that's what I have. Only my BIOS is ancient, 1.01.07... Should I e-mail Sager?
