I've ordered a 9150 with a 7970m. Primary use is for photo and video editing. Love the minimal look over everything else I looked at, even the business notebooks from Dell and HP.
I'm not a gamer, even though I used to play Quake way back in the day. But since I'm getting a pretty good gaming laptop, I figured I'd try at least one game. Just don't tell my wife. Haha.

So if I were to try one game, which would you recommend and why? :)

Ah mate, so many to choose from...I too had been out of gaming for a while and got a p150em so thought I'd give a few games a go.

I really enjoyed borderlands 2, heaps of fun, entertaining dialogue and fun online.

depends what kinda game you like to play.
    horror I would say Amnesia
Bioshock is worth playing for its unique atmosphere
You might like far cry 3 for it being open world and a cool stylish campaign

The game that got me into PC gaming is the original Half Life. They've remade it into more recent graphics and its called Black Mesa. Its also a good game to learn how to use keyboard and mouse as controls.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!
I'm looking at any type of game really. Probably a shooter game but I'm open. Nothing too hard to learn or beat. I just want to see what the world of gaming is like these days and how far things have come...

I would recommend Skyrim if you like RPGs - i'ts fun, looks nice, and has been out long enough that most bugs are fixed. In my opinion, this is probably one of the best bargains in games because of the days you can spend playing it without running out of things to do. There's really no other game like it.

Try StarCraft 2. Be warned, though... some serious clicking and good keyboard control is required.

Also, try Dota 2! Its free, many people can supply you with a free invite (its a closed beta) and its a REALLY nice team game!

    + 1 for skyrim.

No matter what type of games you are into, skyrim is good fun for anyone, as its more of an adventure game, rather than a rpg to be honest. But just be ready to give away 100hours, cause its quite easy to get hooked.

Also, its always good to watch youtube vids on the games you're wanting to buy, as it gives you a prospective on the style of game it is, and if or isn't appealing to you!

    SOOO Many to choose from.

Bulletstorm is fun and easy to get into, a little short but you should be able to buy it fairly cheap now, and there's even a demo.

If you've never played it, Half-Life 2 is awesome, a bit aged, but still awesome. You can download the Cinematic mod for it too and it looks phenomenal.

Tomb Raider is new and getting rave reviews. I haven't played it yet, but it's on my list. Very cinematic gameplay.

Crysis, Crysis Warhead were both fun. Crysis 2 was meh. Just started Crysis 3 though, and it's decent so far.

And games like Skyrim or Mass Effect are quite addictive and fun and look good. Skyrim for your medieval time frame, Mass Effect 1,2,3 for Sci-Fi futuristic.

I'd suggest looking into the Humble bundles and check out GOG.com

There are some really amazing Indie games out there now, and they are incredibly cheap so if you buy one you don't like, you've only spent a few bucks/quid.

If you are more inclined towards shooters then Max Payne, Crysis should do it. Dead space can also be considered a shooter but its really frightening :)
Max Payne 3 in my honest opinion was one of the best games I played in recent times (Considering shooters of course).

If you are fine with checking out other genres then Witcher II, Skyrim, Darksiders II are all awesome games. Witcher II and Skyrim specially have this unbelievable charm that will drag you in. Another of these is Dragon Age.

crysis 3 for shooters defintely. I would recommend Battlefield 3 since the last DLC just came out and its pretty epic, but the Game is quite old so I'd wait for BF4

Also check out Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 coming out on Friday, its builöt on the same Engine as crysis so expect a good game

    Farcry 3 for fun
Mass Effect 2 for great story (or 3 minus the ending)
XCOM for turn based strategy goodness

As mentioned earlier, there are too many great titles to chose from. However, I don't think you can go wrong with far Cry 3, the game is pure fun and the open world environment is huge. The only other sure bet is Skyrim.

I second Bioshock (1 more so than 2, but 2 is good in its own way, it's a nice FPS with some light RPG elements. The atmosphere and story in the first one is amazing, and well worth a play through if you haven't yet.

First Bioshock was good, enjoyed it thoroughly, but never finished the second, just didn't seem to have the same ambiance.

Far from it. Skyrim is a niche game, you really have to like wandering on with no purpose. Most gamers I think would be very bored with Skyrim. I was. The voice acting was also terrible, seems only 5 people did the voice for all the characters. It's tedious and repetative. Go to dungeon, either kill skeletons or robots... In the world, either kill Giants, bandits, lion/bear or dragon. Not much else to do. That's how I see the game, it's not much fun, it's really boring.

I would recommend other free games instead. Blacklight Retribution. Try Team Fortress 2 to see if you like capture the flag cartoon shooters. Try League of Legends to see if you like MOBA, maybe SMITE for third person view on MOBA. Path of Exile to see if you like hack n slash, click action rpg. Tera Online to see if you enjoy MMOs. Planetside 2 for MMO FPS. These are all free.

Definitly Battlefield 3. Skyrim is way too buggy and only fun if you have the best mods installed. Skyrim is also ported from x360 to pc. So the controls may feel unlogical without te mods. While bf3 is ported from pc to x360 and ps3.

My vote goes to Fallout 3 and fallout 3 New Vegas. Played through as a good guy and then went back through as evil.

So far I've tried Team Fortress 2 and its a lot of fun!
Games have come a long way since I last played over a decade ago. The quality is awesome and I actually have a wicked mobile machine to play on now. Can't wait to try more games!
