Import Clevo P150EM from the US?

Hey, this is my first here on NBR.

I am planning on getting a Clevo P150EM. The Problem is i dont know where to buy it. I live in Switzerland and was planning to go with Schenker (MySN). But Schenker doesnt offer the 7970M yet and i defiantly want that card. Schenkers Price without the 7970M is already 2454 USD the way i configured it. On RJtech i can get it with the same configurations for only 2039 USD with the 7970M.... should i import it? I know the 7970m wont come sooner, but thats a 600+ dollar price difference (shipping costs/7970 for Schenker included)

Has anyone got any experience with this sort of thing?

Importing from the US is certainly a viable option, we have lots of customers in Europe, that's why we carry so many different keyboards and power cords.

In terms of costs, there won't be any import duties, you'll just have to pay the same VAT taxes that you would pay if you purchased a laptop locally in Switzerland... and shipping costs aren't that high, you can get USPS for around $120 USD.

 

I have not yet seen any deal good enough to import from US to EU.
Just not worth it. Shipping plus 19-20% VAT is making final price way over the prices compared to inside EU resellers.

oh man i totally forgot about the power cord...
yeah shipping is about 120 usd from germany too so that doesnt matter, im more concerned that if the device is faulty or needs a repair i have to send it back to the us...
what retailer is the best one in terms of price and support?

 

I'm sorry but that's not entirely correct! We charge only 60,- € for one time shipping from Germany to Switzerland. This includes customs papers and fees.
Please also note that you won't have to pay our german VAT. So the actual some you are going to have to pay is:

Actual Prize (in the shopping basket) / 1,19 + 60

Example:
1853 € / 1,19 = 1557,14 €
+ 60€ for shipping = 1617,14 €

That's your final price in EUR.

ah i must have had a wrong number in mind. if i dont have to pay the vat, thats awesome. how does that happen though? do i just choose ship to switzerland and you subtract the vat?

 

You can email them with the configuration you want. Then they will make you a PDF offer for your laptop & components with the price in it. You tell them where you want it to be delivered, they will take that into consideration and give you the correct price.

After all details are clear (might take 5-6 emails back and forth), they will email you the final offer and you pay them per Bank (or Visa or whatever). After receiving payment, they send the machine to you.

It took me 10 days from the day I ordered to receive my machine (in my sig) from another german reseller. I emailed them, took 12 emails and in the same day I ordered it. The next day I sent the money. The money arrived on their account after 3 days. And shipping took 7 days. Thats 10 days total, which is perfect for me.

No matter which country you purchase from (US or EU) when your notebook arrives at customs in your country, they will charge you the VAT taxes (which I believe is 8% in Switzerland) before they'll release the notebook to you.

 

Pretty much, yes. In my case I just asked to confirm the final price to be sure.
Keep in mind you will have to pay the Swiss VAT and admin charge to DHL upon receipt (Swiss VAT is 8 % at the moment).
Also, ask MySN to use the signed for shipping option which does not allow DHL to just drop the parcel at the doorstep - it happened to me, and required exactly a month to sort out. DHL are a bunch of **** it seems, but this is no news

 

yes it helps but cant rep atm... are you referring to mysn? i think you are. yes the swiss vat is only 8% which is awesome . I guess ill be going with mysn as soon as the 7970 drops... any news on that besides late may btw?

 

That might reflect on your experience with NEXOC but with us it's a lot simpler. (No offence intended!)

You order in the shop. You get an order confirmation via email. This automatic email includes the price including VAT and it tells you, how much the VAT part actually is. Then you substract this amount from the sum -> you get your final price, you transfer the money.

So does this mean that the VAT has to be paid sepatately when it's delivered or it doesn't have to be paid at all? (I live in Hungary and as the OP I don't know if it would be worth it to order from the US.)

 

@DaCM, i calculated it once, US import is cheaper but if you have to have it repaired, thats 240+ bucks your paying for shipping there and back, so EU would be cheaper in that case.

 

Bro i ordered mine from Portugal(P170EM), should be arriving soon. It's a version without Ram, hardrive, optical drive and OS for 1349€ You also have complete versions of the machine.
I don't know if they sell to switzerland, but mail them if you want.

i dont feel to.comfortable with the portugese site.. if i buy europe itll be mysn i think. did you get the 7970 card?

 

I bought the P170EM with 7970, should be receiving it very soon, they informed me the first time by the end of April, but recent info delayed to 7 or 8 of May,next week

I talked to MySN and the man said all Clevo resellers will get the 7970m at the end of May. So, I think it doesent matter where you order from. I think MySN would be best for your needs (they are a big company, they got all parts/barebones in a large warehouse, assembly is fast). Unlike some other resellers that come to mind, in MySN your laptop will be shipped faster, assembly should also be better.

In Swiss you have to pay only 8% VAT

I will recommend you to look for purchase in malibal US, xoticpc US or pcspecialist UK. They have very good prices and and configurations.

 

I wouldn't recommend shipping from the US (unless you actually are outside the EU Union), the ship and VAT price is too high.

One is better off using the advantages of EU transport and VAT rules that apply-

If you are outside EU, yes. If you are in it, you pay the merchant's country VAT.

Right, so no matter which country you purchase from - you only pay the 8% Swiss VAT.

 

Yes, for swiss its probably useful to order from US. You will save around 100$ with P150. But for EU its not. I calculated Malibal prices (which are the best it seems) and it basically costs the same vs mysn.de for EU people.
So unfortunately theres no benefit for us to order outside EU if you cant bring your good home by yourself (without paying VAT).

If price is about the same then shipping costs, original order and possible subsequent repairs, should be the decisive factor. I am not sure if MySN offers the 2 years warranty which is standard for online shopping in EU.

 

mysn offers 24 months warranty as basic package (upgradeable)

 

Im on the same ship as OP, but I live in the Netherlands.

I never actually bought anything from foreign countryu so I am, too, bit confused about the taxes part. Somebody in this thread mentioned that if I buy a laptop from another EU country(Germany in this case) I will only have to pay the German VAT tax and thats it. Correct?

Also dear MySN, I suspect that you're losing a fair bit of revenue by not taking pre-orders for laptops with 7970 ^^. All other re-sellers have put their models with 7970 up for buying with estimated shipping starting from late May.

You guys really don't want to be shipping back and forth to/from the US, every time you have an issue. Buy from a country on your continent.

I allso wanted to import from US to Israel (we dont have a clevo resellers in here). but all of them dont accept international paypal. so i will go with mysn.de probably (i kind of like there attitude). by the way - anyone knows the shipment rate of a P150em from germany or other EU to Israel?

 

It should be alright, nothing out of the ordinary 40 - 50€ as far as I know

 

Wow this thread shocked me.. Ive been browsing the usa online stores thinking how cheap they were and i find this.
Idiot question: all this thread means that if i customize a laptop from xoticpc which costs 1800 dollars and buy it from italy, ill have to pay 21% VAT (italian tax) which is HUGE and the shipping cost?????

 

Hi, we ship to your part of the world all the time! I believe the tax you'll pay is around 7% once the notebook arrives. You can get shipping as cheap as $120+.

 

Generally it is not worth it to import from the U.S. if you live in any european country.

By the way: Hungary is in the EU. So you'll pay standard german VAT (which is already included in the final price in our shop) and nothing else.

 

21% from 1.8k$ +120$ shipping translates to ~380 eur. so in the end you would end up paying for the laptop just as much as I will, but services for me will be provided in Europe. I suspect a roundtrip shipping to US and back will cost you something like 250-300$, while it would cost me around 100 euro to ship it to schenker and back. thus, I dont see an opportunity for price arbitrage there... unless you somehow avoid paying taxes, which I dont recommend doing of course.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the taxable amount includes the shipping. So yeah, you don't save too much but if anything goes south you need to ship the computer back which costs a lot and takes a while.
I live in Switzerland and still decided to go for MySN - the savings were not worth the risk IMO.

 

Agreed, even thought shipping from US seems very viable indeed, the risk isn't worth it

 

Oh, doesn't sound that bad.. any model that have backlighting, I think it's 9270? I need that for my working condition at night. How long is the shipping? and do you accept overseas visa/paypal?

Our P170EM and P150EM-SE have backlit keyboards... shipping times depend on which courier and method you select. UPS is fast and reliable but rather expensive. USPS is cheap and can be good at times, but is not as consistent as UPS.

We cannot accept Paypal outside of US, CA & UK... however, we might be able to accept a Visa card, depending on whether or not you can complete our verification.
