I'm looking at sager laptops and believe I want the np9758. Are there any opinions of xotic pc vs origin pc on this model? Looking at 970m with i5 cpu. Thoughts?

It's going to be the same base Clevo model, with about the same customization offered through either of us.

If you have any questions that I can help with, please reach out to me. Thanks!

Stay way from Origin PC, they have horrible quality control issues.

On their forums you will see all the horror stories of people receiving their systems not working out of the box or failing within a week's time. You have to be a registered member though to see the first 2 private sub forums.

Secondly, when I bought my Origin PC Millennium Desktop for 9000 USD. After 3 months I wanted to sell it. So I contacted them to transfer the warranty to the new owner and they denied the request telling me the warranty and system is not transferable. Very bad support for such an expensive system that I couldn't have sold anymore if my buyer wasn't understanding and I told him if anything goes wrong with it to contact me I will do the needful.

See my review of HIDevolution and why I recommend them:

HIDevolution - The Best Company I ever dealt with

    Also see:

    Outstanding support from Eurocom!

What I did was, I told HIDevolution to get me a Eurocom Sky X9 since I wanted to have the Prema unlocked BIOS. Since they have good relations with Eurocom, they ordered the system from Eurocom but it is under the awesome HIDevolution warranty which covers shipping cost of the unit back and forth should anything go wrong with your system.

Thanks for that phoenix. Will definitely look into HIDevolution. I do like some of the "extra" that origin pc adds in. But if the quality control is terrible it's not worth "extras"

What extras are you talking about bro?

HIDevolution have some nice extras like installing coollaboratory liquid ultra for you, installing an advanced copper heatsink, they have more options for RAM configs vs origin PC. The only part where Origin PC wins is custom painting and whatnot, but then Xotic PC can do that as well.

Origin throws in a free sleeve it looks like on the unboxings, which is nice. Right now they are giving a hoodie and t-shirt as well. Plus just 41 bucks for a wooden crate (not that it actually adds any protection or value). I would probably go with stock ram. Get a 250gb ssd and a 750gb-1tb hard drive. Doubt I even overclock so I wouldn't necessarily need the liquid ultra. The way you put it brings my decision down to HIDevolution vs xotic.

When you look at the bigger picture, those freebies are just stupid IMHO (no offense). You want an enthusiast performance laptop, not a bunch of free T-shirts and whatnot.

Do you want to take the risk of receiving a laptop that doesn't work out of the box or fails within a short period of time? I am giving you real world user experience. Like in my case when ordering the Origin PC Millennium, I asked them to install Windows in a certain way and do certain things. What I received is a stock Windows that they install for all customers and then just re-image to a new SSD/HDD. I could tell because I saw in the recycle bin there was many folders of a recycle bin with an uknown owner like (2cesdsXXXXXX).

Now do your research and decide who you want to go with.

I cannot stress enough how awesome the HIDevolution is. For example, with my first Clevo P870DM-G, I had one of the keys (Insert Key) just popout and no matter how many times I re fitted it, it would always pop out if I press it a few times. So they sent me a new key which I didn't have to pay for shipping for. No luck. Then they sent me a whole new keyboard and made me a step by step video on how to replace it. It's like they were virtually with me here in Dubai. They didn't ask for the old keyboard back even so I have some spare keys now if I need.

If you face any issue which a component that is easily replaceable, they will send it to you so you don't sit without your laptop. If the system needs to go for a major repair, they will pay for shipping back and forth.

It's your money after all :)

You could do our white glove for a little less and is great protection on a laptop during shipment.

You're looking at an awesome rig, we'd love to help you! Let me know if there's anything that I can do.

I just ordered the Sager NP9870 S from xotic and I am super excited and looking forward to seeing how much of a beast this Phoenix truly is. It's been over a decade since i've touched anything deeper into a system other than standard bios to setup my ssd on the last machine i had. I've read a lot in the forums here already and look forward to reading more. I'm hoping Xoticpc proves to be as wonderful and reliable as i have read and been told. Any advice and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated from all. Happy browsing and I will post my build here so you can comment on anything you wish. Thanks

Thanks for placing your order with us!

Looks like you have quite the beast getting made there. I think Joe in sales is going to be jealous, as I know he was talking about getting a 9870 with green paint himself a couple weeks ago.

If you have any questions along the way or once you get it, just let us know what we can help with!

    .
Glad Joe got you all fixed up! feel free to reach out to any of us directly if you need anything. Something to keep in mind is it will take awhile since it's built at sager than comes back here for the full paint, but the unboxing will be totally worth it!

Just know your in good hands :)

probably won't be 2 weeks, takes about that long just to paint it (and it still has to be built) we get it built from sager and then have to completely disassemble it, prep it, paint multiple coats, plus a clear coat, each coat has dry time as well so it's a lengthy process but the end result is beautiful.

As long as Joe doesn't try to buy it out from under you we'll get it to you as soon as possible, just don't want to set the wrong expectation as perfection takes time :)

I did not had good experience with Origin PC. I've ordered Eon17-x sleeve (about $20 usd.), and it took about 1 month for me to get the actual sleeve. DO NOT USE ORIGIN PC. They are expensive, and have bad customer service.

Very nice choice! If it works in the budget i'd say get the 980m. It'll be cheaper to do it on the front end than if you want to upgrade to it a year from now. Just something to consider.

Let me know if there's anything that I can do!

my budget is right at the $2k mark. configured with the i5 6600k, 980m, 250gb ssd, 1tb HDD, ic diamond thermal, and win 10 comes out to be $2084.53. Will have to see how that fits when tax return comes in but I have a feeling I may have to back off the 980m.

To bad they aren't giving a new PC write off! A little unconventional but you might back off of the 250gb SSD and put that in later as you can get pretty good deals on those still on amazon, Just a thought? if you buy a 980m down the road to put in you just don't get the credit for the 970m (while you could sell it yourself as well). but just the cheaper easier way to go if you are eventually going to want the 980m.

In all actuality it's going to be for business use so I will be able to write half of it off for office expense on next year's taxes. Will just have to put a pencil to it when this return comes in and see what I can swing. Will definitely consider the option of adding ssd later but really that's just 90 bucks or so for a m2 slot 1.

I was hoping to have a chance to do it today, but the paint finish wasn't completely done yet. Soon...

Please do, I didn't get a chance to see the final product.

Everything looks great but one thing. The tomb raider game wasn't included in the box. I chatted with Eric and he said to email support so I did that yesterday but haven't for a response. Is there a way I can still get this game?

    Thanks pat

Yeah, those games are digital download codes, and not anything included in the box. Nvidia used to give us post cards that had a scratch off box, but it is all digital. If you emailed in, then you should get that soon, once it is requested. Otherwise, send me your order number and I can get that for you too. Glad to hear everything was great otherwise!
