Is it me, or does it look like if the laptop was right side up, the hard drive would be more to the left than right of the touchpad?

It might be slightly to the left of the touchpad, but it's hard to tell.

Thanks for the picture, though you can find a picture of this kind in the service manual. I think the higher temp on HDD is due to its lack of ventilation also it is right next to the GPU. If you take a look in the service manual the under cover doesn't provide any breathing for the HDD. Though I don't think the heating of the HDD is a big issue, since most of the HDD can tolerate heat pretty well and they are usually under warranty by manufacture.

That's weird, it looks like the harddrive is exactly in the middle of the laptop, whereas owners so far have reported noticable heat coming from the palmrest to the right of the touchpad. I don't think anyone's said anything about the touchpad itself being warm.

And I think one person said the heat was coming from around the right Ctrl key which appears to be directly above the chipset/ram.

Maybe it is the chipset then.

its prob the chipset imo.. its passively cooled and tucked away... from the main and only fan.

maybe a mod job is required.

^^ Yeah, agreed. It sure looks like the Intel chip is the source of the heat (and technically the RAM's in the proper location). I'm curious as to the wattage & chip model that the people who noticed heat had in the notebook (since I'm assuming the 10 watts makes a huge difference, based on that layout).

On the other hand, this means the GPU isn't causing the most heat (? hopefully), which is unusual and I guess a good thing, as the cpu can be undervolted & whatnot.
