Can I install Windows XP on NP8690?

I just received my NP8690. I did not order any operating system thinking I can install XP and then do a Win 7 upgrade because I can get a student discount. Unfortunately its giving me a BSOD screen with STOP: 0x0000007B error.

If I can install XP on NP8690, is the above mentioned upgrade even possible? Or is it better to do a clean install? I do not have Vista only XP.

    Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure that would be an AHCI error. Check around in the BIOS.

In that case you need to get the ahci drivers here (assuming 32bit XP) and either slipstream them into the xp install usinv Nlite, or get a usb floppy drive and install them using the F6 method.

Congrats! I had the Win7 Pro upgrade on pre-order from _Amazon, until I realized I couldn't upgrade to it from Vista _HP... it was too late so I had to pay full price for the Win7 _HP upgrade. You got it good man! Win7 runs great, bumped my 3Dmark06 a few hundred.
