I just installed 12GB (instead of the pre-installed 6GB, 3x2GB sticks) which I bought from here:

    8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 upgrades for Clevo D900F Laptop/Notebook, CT1301643 from Crucial.com
    4GB, 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 upgrades for Clevo D900F Laptop/Notebook, CT1301627 from Crucial.com

And installed in my Clevo D900F, Windows 7 64-bit with pre-installed BIOS (not updated, if that makes any difference?). In BIOS it says 8GB installed, as well as when right-clicking on My Computer and going to Properties.

Any ideas what might be the problem? Or if there is an utility/program of some sort that could tell me which of the three slots is not working? :(

I... am not sure. Have you contacted your reseller for assistance? You do have lifetime technical support. And amazing, there's another D900F user still alive... I thought I was the last of my kind..

Hehe, yeah, I'm still waiting for a reply from Crucial. Thought I'd ask here in case. Though come to think of it, last time I asked something about D900F here I got just a few replies, and no real help :/. So we might indeed be the last :p

A friend of mine who works on a Mac says you can get feedback on which of the slots are not working. Surely there must be a similar tool for Windows :/

why not just remove two chips and put one in the slot, check it, and do the same for the other slots

    DDR3 1333 has recognition issue on D900F.
You may solve it by upgrading Bios.

1333MHz should be only recognized by the i7-975/990X CPUs. If he got it to install, then it shouldn't be a problem recognizing the RAM. But yes, a BIOS flash might help. I can't say for sure though.

Where I live I can't really get many upgrades... so I've never tried really.

Also, to OP, I said call your reseller, not your RAM supplier. Your machine ought not boot unless 3 RAM slots are occupied, matching and working. Unless I'm mistaken about that, but I don't think I am. Tell your reseller about it and ask for support.

In the end we installed, or rather tried to install 12GB of 1333MHz memory. Didn't work. So after much fiddling about, I updated the Bios. Which I should have done much sooner, as that did the trick.

Thank you all for your suggestions!!

I'm happy to say it might have been a fitting problem (thanks aduy!). I removed the one under the keyboard, booted the laptop and it still said 8GB installed, like earlier. So I put it back again and it just worked :) So thanks guys!!!

It was DDR3 1333 btw, and I'm still on the pre-installed BIOS, because I'm scared to install a new one :/ I would do it though, but only if I knew the latest BIOS would enable me to upgrade my CPU to 980x or 990x (from 950). But no one has confirmed if this is possible yet :( Only thread that has a user attempting to upgrade to 980x, ends with BSOD.

980X needs a BIOS update. The machine was sold with it before being discontinued though.

But who can confirm that the BIOS (v1.00.09) available here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html

Actually works with 980X. Doesn't seem to be anyone on this board that has successfully upgraded the CPU. The resellers that offered D900F with 980X might have made their own custom BIOS for it to be compatible, no?

This thread specifically made me a bit cautious:

But it's Sager machines we bought, not Clevos. We would need Sager BIOSes. If the resellers had it to sell it, then they would have working BIOSes. If you want to upgrade, you're still under lifetime technical warranty, that includes software/BIOS.
