Okay - any help is greatly appreciated..

I installed vista ultimate 64 bit - but when I go into the bios I see that the system thinks that xp is running (I think this is why i'm not able to sleep or hibernate), BUT - when I try to change it to vista I get bluescreened. Constant blue screen loop.

My system came with no os so I loaded it myself. Typically I have no problems with installations but should I have changed it to "vista" before I loaded the OS? Is that why it's not letting me change it now? Don't really know...any help appreciated. Thanks!

there was never any xp partition. My ultimate 64 bit os occupies all 320 gigs. well it's really 299 usable but still - no previous partition. I guess it says "xp" as a standard thing or something.

I believe it has something to do with how the bootloader is handled. If that is so, you would have to redo the os.

yeah i'm just going to reformat it later tonight and set the bios option to "vista" before I format. Hopefully that'll clear up my sleep/hibernate issue.

I just checked on my BIOS and it says Vista as OS.

    What I did:
    - Boot from Vista DVD
    - Format partition
    - Clean install Vista

So maybe you should try and reinstall Vista again x_x

I believe that setting is the equivalent of the robson/ahci on the 579x, so you can enable it after install, but you need to manually install the intel matrix storage manager driver first

Hey, I have the Eurocom version of the M860TU and I also didn't order an OS with my laptop

The bios also says xp when I have Vista 32bit installed. However, I haven't noticed any problems (e.g. sleep or hibernation errors) yet.

Should I bother with a clean install etc to fix this bios error? Or is it not really a problem at all...? Thanks

It's not really a problem, it just means that you aren't using the AHCI mode for your hard drive (Advanced Host Controller Interface - which enables native command queueing) You are unlikely to see much of a difference in everyday circumstances

yeah there is totally no need to reformat to fix that..
    1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
    2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
    4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
    5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

Simple registry edit, after that you MUST change the BIOS to vista on the reboot. AHCI will reduce your boot time
