I will be installing Windows XP Professional 32 bit on a Clevo P150HM based system. Has anyone successfully gotten all the drivers working in XP? If you have tried and failed, which specific items will not work in XP because of driver issues? If not, is there any other model notebook featuring the 485M GPU that is more XP driver friendly?

Hi Kimchiman,
There is no way that you will get a 485 running on windows XP
you would have to do so much modding its simply not worth it -
May i ask why you want to use Windows XP on a Clevo P150HM? (Sager 8150)
If you need to use certain "odd" programs that only runs on XP i would recommend setting up a virtual XP install instead.
Also running Windows XP will disable DirectX 11, DXVA accelleration of video files, DirectCompute, OpenCL and who knows what else. D: -
It's to run one specific old program my boss wrote. Virtual XP was tried and it will not work. Most of the features you stated that won't work aren't required. Getting the sound ports working, the USB 3.0, and the graphics card working are the main requirements. The laptop will be used for recording video from a camera and then playing it back using our software. We tried a vostro 3500 and it wasn't powerful enough. My boss is set on the 485M GPU even though I suggested the 460m GPU. I explained how drivers will be the main issue, but he wants to still make the attempt. After the attempt to get XP working on the laptop, he will rewrite his program to run on Windows 7 X64. But that will take a few months most likely and he wants to get something up and running soon.

Still i would give VirtualBox a chance before doing a XP install.
It will give you access to the host computers GPU and sound.
I seen Youtube vids of people who could play games off that solution.
But a solution to your Windows XP question could be to make a special XP disc with drivers already loaded into it.

You can partition the hard drive then run a dual boot system. If you cant get everything to work on the XP partition at least you can go back to the Windows 7 partition. But as mentioned before, dont expect to get all the drivers you need installed on XP.

And in case no one already knows it, you get Windows XP free with Win7 anyway through XP mode
Download Windows XP Mode
No reason to bother with virtualbox/VMware if you just need compatibility (plus, no need to get a license for XP on the side- XP mode comes with a fully licensed copy) -
On a side note, one thing VMware can do over the others is import your XP Mode as an XP VM.
It all comes down to usage case and power demand for how you want to approach it. -

I would recommend VMware as well. There's no point to installing a real version of XP when virtualization works much better.
