    Hello guys.
After 2 weeks of waiting, i finally got my Clevo P150EM. The only game i have installed so far is Crysis 2 Maximun Edition. I usually get 30-45 fps at ultra settings ( I saw a video in youtube of a guy getting between 45-58 WITH fraps), and when im outdoor, my GPU usage drops from 99% to 80-85%. So, i have decided to install the AMD drivers, and here is where i need your help.

I have read that the 12.11 beta11 driver, along with the 12.11cap2, works pretty good. Any info about this driver will be helpful.
I also would like to know which is the best way to install the beta11 driver, if there is a guide or anything, i would really appreciate it if you let me know :D

Someone told me that the 12.11 beta driver isnt that good, and that previous drivers are better. Is that true?

Thanks and sorry for my english!

I'm looking for the same information as you haha.

For me, can't install *any* AMD drivers as it crashes with a blue screen. I'll be watching this thread and hoping we can find some more information!

Uninstall current drivers, restart if asked, install new drivers, restart if asked. Simple as that. After the new drivers have been installed, boot on the battery so you don't blue screen in start up. There's a problem with the beta drivers that cause something to attempt to run on the dGPU which causes the blue screen.

I see in your sig that we have the same rig. What specific drivers are you using? I have had so many troubles that I would like to play it safe with known working ones.

do you know how to install 12.11 beta11 AND the cap2? because they work together.

Also, is it necessary to have a system backup? Havent done one yet.

Thank you. I've received an old version from GenTech (reseller) which is what they ship with their windows 8 rigs, and will install it in 5 minutes when it finishes download. Maybe I'll try to upgrade to the 12.11p after :).

You need both of these? Perhaps this is my fatal flaw.

Erm... There's really not much to say. Install the drivers then install CAP2.

There is really not much to it, dont be so afraid of BSODs as well.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK:

The method i used to install drivers would be (i am not nearly an expert, there is much more knowledgeable people around here):

    0) Backup any data and valuable info of your laptop, in case you have to reinstall windows.

    >>>>Unplug your PC for the whole process to avoid any BSODs<<<<

    1) Uninstall AMD driver: go to control panel and unistall programs. Select AMD Catalyst and uninstall express (all amd products).
    restart

    2) Install 12.11 beta 11, use the express auto setting.
    restart
If you get warnings or errors during install, run the installer again, sometimes it doesnt install all features at once (no clue why, this happened to me)

    3) Install 12.11 CAP2 (not sure if this is really needed in non crossfire rigs, doesnt hurt anyway)
    restart

    4) Install latest intel drivers (this might be optional). i have never uninstalled these.
    restart

After everything is installed check your drivers version in control panel device manager, you should have: 9.10.8.0 , 02/12/2012

After installing run a few benchmarks, clevo p150EM with 7970 should get 6600 pmarks in 3dmark11

To fully avoid BSODs with beta11 you have two options:

    1) Always start/restart unplugged (you can unplug before entering your windows password)
    and/or
    2) Set powerplay (in CCC) to max battery plugged in. This lets you restart plugged but you have to set it back to max performance to play games and benchmarks
    3) I think windows 8 doesnt give any BSODs, i have windows 7.

the worst that can happen is that you have to install unistall several times, or reinstall windows... lol
about crysis 2 if you play it in DX11 and HD textures it averages around 40fps if i recall correctly. Not sure about multiplayer settings.

Installing or updating drivers is always a risky proposition, but the more you do it you learn the tricks there are.

    good luck!

I disagree, it's not a risky proposition, it's just drivers. It's not scary.

You should install Intel FIRST. That's the default GPU. You don't need the 7970M and your machine will run fine.

Install the 7970M drivers after. Install CAPS if you really want to after.

Don't use registry cleaners, and driver cleaners, they do more harm than good. And almost guaranteed to destroy something when you have switchable graphics.

If you are having issues with startup, don't OVERCLOCK, just leave it be, don't use Afterburner. The 7970M is plenty powerful enough for any current game. MSI Afterburner does not have any support for AMD overclocking and especially switchable graphics. Afterburner is currently using a driver bug. This is straight from the creator of Afterburner, that's why it's called unofficial.

And if that fails, just ditch Windows 7 and get Windows 8. It's more stable anyway.

Right now, im using Afterburner because of the monitoring, to see the GPU usage and fraps, but i have no intention to overclock the 7970m.

Thanks for the registry cleaners tip, wont use them in the future.

use hwinfo in combo with MSI on screen display (comes with afterburner) to monitor usage, temps and everything, lot better than AB.

Seconded, that's what I do. Afterburner comes with the OSD and shows my FPS. I then use HWinfo to show my CPU/GPU temps and utilization.

CPU usage is at 99% indoors? Wow, I didn't know any games could max out the 3610.

Dumb question. Anyway, i downloaded intel driver, and i did it all over again. Installed intel driver, restart, amd driver, restart, Cap2 , restart. So far is working ok, but i noticed i cant check my gpu utilization on Afterburner now, does anyone know how to fix this? also, in afterburner, core clock and memory clock are set to 0, what is the problem?

Your answer is in every other thread about the 7970 out there... It's a problem with how Afterburner, GPU-Z, and so on see the beta drivers. Really, if you took like 2 seconds to look in other threads instead of creating a new one, you would have found all of your answers.
