    Hello,

I have been searching around these forums for the "proper" way to install Nvidia Graphic drivers for both XP and Windows 7. Is there anyone who can give me a step by step explanation, or a link to a damn good guide.

Given my Name "laptopnub" Lol....I really don't want to mess anything up. I remember reading something about uninstalling the drivers, using a cleaner program ? , then booting in safe mode or something but man...I just can't find the guide or link where I read it.

BTW I have 2x laptops 1x XP, and 1x Win 7, and both need new Nvidia Drivers so any and all help would be most appreciated

Thank You all in advance for any help you can provide :)

Best way to do it is to download the drivers directly from the manufacturer of the notebook's site. It should download as an .exe file, just run it and you're good to go.

The only time you need to worry about a cleaner program is if you're having issues with the current drivers, or when you want to step back to older ones.

If you're just updating them you dont really need to do anything special

Downloading drivers from the nvidia website is also really safe. Just choose from the drop-down menus what operating system and video card model you have in your laptop and it automatically gives you the driver you need. Installing them is easy: just run the .exe and the installer takes care of everything.

Thx Hutsady, unfortunately, I am having problems currently when trying to play games on Steam. Half-life, expansions etc... are freezing after 10 min. Screen goes Opaque white, sound can be heard, but I cannot do anything. If I alt Tab, I can hear the sound stop as if it's going to windows but...still opaque white screen. I cannot Cntrl/Alt/Del...wont' let me...I have to powerdown.

I think I am having a driver corruption issue... So I would love to know how to "Properly CLEAN existing Drivers from Windows 7 and XP if at all possible. Then I can install the new ones via Safe Mode? I heard that just over-writing existing old drivers was NOT a good way to do updates? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

firstly i would use This Nvidia List as it gives you a whole list of the previous drivers and not just one.

Here's a step by step guide on the best way of updating the drivers:
