Hey guys - Don't want to look like an idiot here, but I just got my NP8662 in the mail (yes!) and I'm installing Windows 7 on startup to use as a primary OS on the system. When I load it up, I get to where I choose where to install Windows, and I have a little note that says, "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1." There's the option to Format the drive, or to load drivers. I snooped around the Internet for a minute (I just want to make 100% sure I do everything right, and in order!) and saw on some sites that at this point you should install a driver or two to let things be recognized... but I figured maybe I needed to (duh?) format the drive first and just go straight from there (and do the drivers after it's installed). At the risk of seeming not-at-all savvy, I ask you guys what I should do to continue the installation. Thanks a lot!

You'll need to format the drive, to install Windows 7, or any other operating system.
-
Had to delete the partition that was on the drive before installing - Xoticpc helped me out. Thanks!
-
Your not going to have any real issues with that. I've been using it as my main OS for a couple of weeks now.
I switched when I got my Gskill Falcon SSD, and the new operating system along with a new SSD makes for the fastest computing experience I have ever had.
This machine 'feels' faster than my old core i7 desktop.
7 is just downright amazing. -
I wanted to install 7 a couple of months ago, but I was not able to find frivers. WHere should I get them?
-
Use Vista drivers, they work 95% of the time.
-
I've been using 7 as my main OS (still have vista on the other partition, but very rarely boot into it) since public beta in january...

windows 7 wrecks vista. in the butt.

i want to switch but i need a new hdd first
-
Why do you need a new hdd?
-
I just received my 8662 from xoticpc today have have set up a windows 7/ubuntu dual boot without any problems so far. I've had no problems with the vista drivers for windows 7.

when we install win7 as our main OS should we select the "Vista" option in the bios or the "Other" option?
Would selecting "Other" explain why I'm getting high HDD temperatures because I cant use the AHCI feature? -
Select vista, that option is very misleading as it is simply whether to use ahci or not.
However if you change it after OS install, you'll need to manually install the matrix storage drivers first, or it won't boot -
yeah i'm stuck with that problem now (installing win7 without AHCI, then trying to change it after the fact)... i'm trying to manually install the drivers but it wont do it. i even tried to extract the driver files to a usb stick, boot from the win7 cd, and load the drivers through the windows repair system and it wont accept them.
i'm using the IATA88ENU.exe I got from intel... am i missing something? I think i'll just wait until the RTM leak of win7 x64 in a few weeks and then do a fresh install -
try this:

then install iata88 -

but since we are on hdds. i don't know if any one else this in there bios but what is achi?????? i have it disabled and when i enable it, i bluescreen. i heard it is suppose to make my syste, faster but is it worth me eraseing everything and to start new. -
wow... so easy! thanks alot! I would rep you again but i'm locked it seems!
now lets see if my hdd temps are gonna go down, they were constantly in the 55-60 range doing normal stuff, not gaming, scary... -

ok thanks. let me know.

anyone get the UPEK Win 7 finger drivers to work with the 8662?
They install fine and seem to detect the sensor but then the software says it can't detect it when you try to enroll? -
my hdd used to idle around 53-55 and go up to 60-62 under load, after switching to ahci mode it idles around 48-50 and goes up to 53-55 under load, so overall a 5C improvement which is huge because it places my temps under the 60C danger threshold at all times
defenitely worth it fixing win7 for AHCI -
what i did is i went in control panel/biometrics, enabled fingerprint reader, let it scan my fingers and now i'm able to log on using the fingerprint reader...
maybe you could try to delete/rollback those drivers and try the generic ones? -
yes i did that, for some reason win7 had mis-detected the finger reader, but found the win7 ones really slow on awake from sleep. So then tried the win7 upek drivers which work well and I recommend them.
