Just got a D901C with Vista on it and replaced it with a partitioned space with XP Pro. Now I have downloaded the drivers from the Clevo website but wondered if there is any recommended order. I know generally when installing XP on desktops it's generally been Chipset > Gfx > Everything else.

    Also a few questions.
What's the Intel Matrix driver for?
Do I want the basic WLAN driver for XP or the one that says it for XP and Vista for the Intel 4965AGN, which the specs say I have.
Couldn't see a way to disable devices I don't want to use in BIOS, is the only way through Hardware Manager?

On a not quite related note has anybody had any experience putting Linux on these machines? Specifically Ubuntu Studio distribution (probably 8.04.1 x86.)

I've come across posts from a number of people who have (more or less) successfully installed a linux variant on the D901C, including some of the Ubuntu distributions (although I cannot speak to the precise subflavor of Ubuntu you referenced). You will in all likelihood get more answers on the linux question in the linux forum, even though you're talking about a Clevo machine.

OK I will do if I run into any difficulties with getting it running. The Ubuntu forum seems pretty busy as well so a good place to go with questions. No suggestions for the drivers for XP though?

I was able to install Mandriva. Everything seems to work without problem, but I did not test the wlan.

Right actually had some time to get on with installing drivers today but a few things aren't quite right... Have installed what I consider the required drivers, SP3 and Windows Updates so far.

What I consder probably the most critical point (and almost started a new thread for this) is that something seems to have broken my boot-up screen. This includes the POST screen where it scans your hardware as well as the Windows splash screen. Both Windows once loaded and BIOS itself display OK. Think it first happened when I installed the 8800m driver from Clevo, seemed to get worse with SP3 and I have now put on the driver 185 from nVidia's site with no change. Anybody experienced similar or any ideas on this?

Secondly my Deviced Manager shows two Realtek High Definition Audio, one of them without a driver installed and doesn't recognise the ones I've downloaded when pointed to the folder or accept the Windows one which claims to be for the device.

In Other Diveces there is a Mass Storage Controller which isn't working. Think it may be related to the Intel Matrix driver as that didn't complete, saying I had wrong hardware, and I think it was related to some kind of storage controller.

TPM failed saying I didn't have the chip in m hardware.

Got wireless working but I had to manaually configure Windows to maintain the wireless connection. Is that normal?

Thanks for any help. Seems to be pretty much working but not fully tested and don't know how stable. As I said the fautly boot screen is the most disconcerting thing.

If you want the most stbale drivers for windows you should use the one from the sager website. I do not know if there is a specific order to install de drivers in windows, but I guess the order you mentioned should be ok. If you have problem with the linux drivers you will be in trouble.

I do not know if you are writing there, but the kobalt forums are quite active also.

I haven't put this on the Kobalt forum but I have chatted there before.

You say go to the Sager site yeah? I got evrything off the Clevo site and they had the drivers but didn't seem to have much other information it on. Will check Sager.
