I have a Clevo M860TU with Intel 5300N, Lenovo Ideapad and Sony Vaio both with Intel 5100N. WRT610N v1 with dd-wrt BS 12874.
I'm using Xirrus to measure the strength of each laptop at the same exact spot. All of them are using the same driver and with transmission power set to max.
Why is it that the laptops with Intel 5100N get stronger signal than the Intel 5300N? Here are the approximate values:
Intel 5100N:
2.4GHz band: -27 dBm
5 GHz band: -45 dBm
Intel 5300N:
2.4GHz band: -41 dBm
5 GHz band: -55 dBm
That difference is SIGNIFICANT I suppose. I will not be surprised if the 5300N gets better signal than the 5100N because the 5300N uses three antennae while the 5100N uses just only two but in my case the results are otherwise![]()
Why is this so?

I dont know but last year when we went on vacation, my laptop with a 5100 would reach the wifi in the main hall, but my dads with a 5300 could not...
so not a rigid example but its does show what u proved -

Oh, so you think it's just normal?

i think maybe that it is normal, but i have no idea why that would be

During your vacation, did you try both laptops in the same spot?
-
yep, same spots, i mean not a lot of space in a tiny hotel room lol

So I guess... I should get an intel 5100 .

Lol ok.
I'm just worried that it's not with the cards but with the laptop, I don't know really.
