    Hi

The title says it all. It is on a Sager NP8150. Does Sager provides custom drivers for Widi Support ? The CPU is marked as supported and I have the Intel Centrino Advanced n6230 which is supported as well. Anyone could make it work ?

    Thanks !

You need an adapter (as in, an external device) that will push the wireless technology from your PC to the TV.

In other words, to make WIDI work, you will need:

A laptop with a compatible processor and wireless card
    A compatible TV
An external device (which you can find easily, just google it)

    Thank you

However, the problem is more basic ; I cannot install Intel widi drivers they say it is not supported not Intel HD Graphics which are required.

Oh yeah, I think it's because your iGPU is not connected to the screen...which means you don't have Optimus. And since the iGPU is needed and used to power WIDI, I don't think you'll be able to use it.

The NP5160 and NP5170 should, however.

Yeh that probably means none of will be able to use it. All the Intel technology supported by the HD Graphics 3000 IGP is unavailable to us, because we do not have switchable graphics, so quite literally those cores aren't even being used. Kind of a waste don't you think? Instead the 460m will handle all graphics stuff, and idk it it supports WiDi...

I wish I had known this before buying however (hope it can help future buyers) - they are no possible workaround I guess ?

In short, any clevo/sager does NOT support widi or optimus nor HD graphics drivers it seems. I do not know why they do not release a driver for it, at least for widi.

Correction: Any Sager/Clevo that DOES support Optimus (and assuming you have the necessary components), such as the NP5160/70, should be able to utilize WIDI.

However, the whole WIDI technology is not impressive to some, especially for gaming.

Yes, thanks for the clarification :) For other like me (e.g. NP8150) which do not have optimus support, it won't work. I intended widi to stream videos/movies mainly and presentations.

    Yes, Thanks for this link.

Also I find it confusing for consumers because some web sites implicitly assume they support intel HD graphics on some (in fact unsupported models) such as this one:

    Sager NP8150 (Clevo P150HM) 15.6" HD+/Core i7 Sandy Bridge/NV GTX460M/GTX485M/4GB DDR3/320G 7200/DVD: GenTech PC Store

They say "With 2nd generation Intel Core i7 mobile processors, you get the following features built in: ... Intel® HD Graphics 3000 delivers built-in performance for casual and mainstream gaming with no extra graphics hardware needed."

In fact, they are no drivers for this Sager NP8150 (Clevo P150HM) model.

Yeh I have to say, when I bought my laptop I thought that it would use the HD Graphics too, mainly because I had no idea how it worked, I figured it would just use both the Intel HD and the 460m at the same time, instead of switching them up. I didn't learn till later that QuickSync wouldn't work, the IGP wouldn't work at all, and I found out just now with you that WiDi wouldn't work. At least now I've learned something so I'll be aware of it in the future. I don't think any reseller did a particularly good job listing the features we wouldn't get. I think XoticPC had something like (video processor disabled), but it wasn't that noticeable, more like an after thought, and I didn't know what that implied when I read it. Luckily I wont be needing any of those features, but I imagine quite a few will be disappointed.
