Doesn't let me install because I have an "unsupported platform".

Its a very powerful piece of software BUT you need to be running an Intel chipset to use it, and Im not sure which versions, probably the mobile P35/45.

I'd love to be able to use it, but Nvidia chipset (yay).

Pretty sure it's only for Core2 chips and chipsets, not for the I7s.

    From: http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-3394-view-Intel-Extreme-tuning-utility.html

So does anyone have the intel chipset third series?

And is this tool the desktop or mobile version?

Also why can't we download it from intel?

    Looks good, just like CPUz.

Too bad I have a crappy notebook that doesn't work with it.

EDIT: What does "enable "brink OC"" mean?

EDIT#2: DW, I found what it means.

tried to install it on my laptop but it fails while trying to install some driver. "unsupported platform". Not too bothered because I can overclock through the bios. Does it only work on certain intel chipsets or was the link posted not the mobile version?

It only works on Intel mobile chipsets.

which intel chipsets though? Be handy tweaking / overclocking from windows instead of through the bios.

PM35/45 IIRC, might support a few others, but would rather not guess away :D

XTU (the Intel Extreme tuning Utility) does support the new Core i7 CPUs. Hardware requirements for XTU are simple - Intel CPU and chipset. For mobile products it must be an XE product. For desktop products it can be either XE, or non-XE

BIOS requirements are a bit more complex. The BIOS must support certain hooks in order for the XTU service to work. As such not all vendors support XTU. In short, if you want XTU - contact your OEM and ask for it. If they know customers want it they will alter their BIOS to support it and provide it.

I've just tried it and returned an error that it cannot hook to the XTU service. I guess Clevo does not support it in the BIOS...

Is it just me, or Clevo's BIOS support is appalling. I am sorry, but I had to say it.
