I am seriously considering buying a new Sager NP5170. But with the Sandy Bridge delay I have no idea how long it will take to actually recieve one.
Today I read an article on Cnet which states Intel ships Sandy Bridge chipsets again
I have two questions:
1. Are Sager laptops actually effected by the Sandy Bridge issue? This isssue specifically effects Sata II devices. So when I look at the specs of the 5170 for example I see SATA Hard Disk Drive. I guess that would apply if using Sata II drives.
2. Do you think Sager vendors such as XoticPc will start shipping sooner rather than later based on this Intel decision? Or will they play it safe and NOT ship anymore Sandy Bridge units until they recieve the new repaired motherboards?
Thanks for any info you have on this.

1. Yes, they are affected.
2. No, they will not start shipping soon. They have not shipped since end of Jan, and will not ship anymore Sandy Bridge units until they receive the new repaired motherboards. -
I think none of them have supply any mOre and forgo optical drives are on SATA 2. Clevo is not shipping until replacement because they have eSATA too.

Interesting, I just found a thread on this topic in XoticPc's forum. From what I can tell this story is still unfolding and the fat lady hasn't sung yet:
Intel Sandy Bridge Recall Update - XOTICPC Forums
I think most folks waiting to buy their next system like myself have accepted that orders will be somewhat late. The big question is are we supposed to wait around until April or May which is a long way off yet? Or can something break before then? I don't really want to wait that long. So I haven't pre-ordered yet for this very reason. But maybe its better to just take a number and get in line in case something does break earlier. Geesh, I feel like I just walked into the DMV. Here we go again. Maybe AMD will wake up in the mean time.
