What are the benefits up this upgrade over the standard wireless card?

I mean it's only $35...but is it even worth the $35?

In short Yes worth the 35$. Better speed, better range, and reliable. DO it.

Obviously it has better speed and range. The question is if the upgrade from the 5300 (which I assume is what he has) is significant enough to actually make an improvement noticeable.

$35 is reasonable. But read reviews of wireless-n routers first for a bit of reality check.

Yah, you would still need an N router to have those great speeds.
But anywhay you may look at it, it's an upgrade that will be usefull in the time to come.
