Hello, i have a clevo w355ST and it is working fine on an external Monitor, the internal screen is completely dead. I got it one week ago pretty cheap, the previous owner said he just cleaned it up and after he tried to boot, no image on screen. But i cannot really believe that.
I found something pretty strange on the mainboard, where the 2nd hard drive bay is located. Is this like that from factory or did somebody solder a capacitor on there?
Here are two pictures of what i mean:

Maybe some of you guys have the same model and can tell me if this is factory or not, but it looks strange and unprofessional.
Maybe you have some clues of what is going on here.
Thanks in advance!

do you think this might be the culprit of my internal screen not working? I tried desoldering that capacitor, but the soldering tin on there is not melting even at 480° Celsius.

That would likely be the problem. Although for good measure, have you attempt to check the display cables to make sure they were properly connected/seated ?

you say display cables? Are there more than one? The main one with the bigger black cable is seated correctly and does not look damaged.

oh, it never came to my mind to check the cable also on the monitor side, just checked it where it connects to the mainboard. I will do that tomorrow and post the results!

Guys, you are the best!! My screen is working again! The cable on the monitor side was loose! Wow, would have never came to my mind to look on the back of the monitor
Thanks!!
Now another question, i cannot find any drivers for the webcam, not even on clevos Website. But The camera is not working at all. I have win10 installed.
Edit: FN + F10 and a reboot did the trick!Last edited: Jun 15, 2018Prostar Computer likes this. -

Did you use some tape (Kapton is best) to hold the connector in? This will prevent it falling out again.
-
nope, but good idea! I will do it next time, if it will ever happen again

It's what most places use as extra security against bumps and thermal walk (the connector over time can expand/contract and move itself out of the connector!)
