Hey, I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm going to buy a Sager at Xoticpc, and I have my doubts about the shipping.
Will the shipping company deliver directly to my home, considering how SOB's some customs agents are in my country? Or I will have to drive 2 hours to the airport and pay a ton of money to pick it up?
What about taxes? Since I'm buying it for myself and I'm the end consumer, the only one I should be paying is VAT. Or there are more?

And how will they charge me? Because you know, Xoticpc allows for customization... The VAT is 21% in Argentina, but the 21% of the retail value of the laptop (around 2200 for the standar components) or the real value (around 3000 considering the customized components). I hope the first one :p

Is there any way to... bypass taxes? Like asking at Xoticpc to wrap it in gift paper and send it as a gift, so I won't be paying extra? Or should I bribe a customs agent- after all they are already very corrupt people- lol?

Lol, somehow the gift thing just sounds worse than the undervaluing.

Ask a relative to bring it in when he's flying down in his suitcase without the box and packaging.

Well, the only relatives I have in USA are expecting a baby so if that's the case I would have to wait like... 6 months to get my hands on my NP9262

OMG I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG, PLEASE SHOOT ME AND PUT ME OUT OF THIS MISERY :'(

Well if you are using the laptop for entertainment, 21% interest is not going to be made back, so ask to see if it can be sent as a gift.

If this is a business laptop, then bite the bullet and pay the cash.

You could ask them to show a reduced invoice value, or mark it as refurbished and then reduce the value. Gift option might work, though it depends from county to county. Also, try getting it shipped to an educational institution if you're in touch with one, there might be a rebate.

You could also try showing it as repair n returned or something like that. Though all of this works on an understanding between you and the merchant.

I don't think playing Crysis at very high settings can be considered business :p

Good call, I should try that, I'll ask Justin from Xoticpc what's the best option

Looks like I'm gonna have to bribe someone after all!

XoticPC is a very reputable company from what I've read so far (talked to Justin and he was great) and I am sure they will NOT break the US law, to send it as a gift or undervalue.
You will pay VAT for the declared value of the package.

I don't mind paying VAT... BUT THE SOB's CAN CHARGE ME IMPORTATION TAXES THAT GO AS FAR AS 70%, MAKING ME PAY ALMOST DOUBLE!!!
I don't want to sell that notebook, I would rather sell my soul, so they shouldn't charge me importation taxes... right?

Customs agents here are like a masonic sect, they are EVIL
