hi guys, i just ordered and paid for the 8170 from xoticpc and i was quoted 460usd(UPS international) for shipping to my country. i went on to sagernotebook.com and used the Shipping Calculater and was quoted 360usd instead. i also checked with donald from powernotebook, and he quoted me 360usd(UPS international) too. correct me if i am wrong but i thought all sager branded laptops are shipped from sager itself. i dont understand why theres a price discrepancy in international shipping charges. whats going on here? discuss

shipping it to malaysia, zero duty on laptops and pcs.
why would there be a difference at all when sager and powernotebook is shipping it at 100usd cheaper?

well you should have research more before paying ... and discuss with them about the shipping ... I would have chosen USPS expedited cheaper and no brokerage fees

well xotic seems to try to get more profit .. (see the 240$ for mate panel)

so i just spoke to someone from xoticpc, apparently the 100usd more is for extra padding for shipping and extra insurance protection. :/ so does this mean sager packs extra sponge in their box exclusively for xoticpc?.........
while packing less sponge for other resellers?

Yeah, LPC-digital is the cheapest after you consider shipping costs..

Try asking babyhemi for a quote and see how much they offer it for.

Just reading this thread. Shipping internationally between Canada and the US is no small feat -- costs are high and logistics can threaten even the most carefully laid and executed plans. Shipping between USA and Malaysia -- holy crap! Just the risk alone of theft or damage or logistical screw-ups that then cause incredible burden on your business in terms of time and tracking and followup etc. This always places extra burden on the resources of the company -- extra logistics and complication. You are lucky they even take your business. Paying 100 bucks more (1/3) is a small price to play if it all goes okay.

I've said this before -- and I realize a lot of you guys here are young and your budgets are very tight -- but I caution you against nickle and diming your vendors. They need to make money -- and this is a very hard (low margin) industry to make money in. If you want service -- good service -- well that costs them too. Your extra shipping fees will help them deliver to you better service. If you don't allow them anywhere to make some margin or recover their costs you'll soon be dealing with drop shippers and no value added vendors who essentially ship you a factory box. Is that what you all want?

yeah fair enough, ive already paid in full and have no intentions of cancelling my order. just wanted to find out the differences in shipping costs among resellers. if it truly does cost extra for more protection, i'd be happy with that. would be nice if a xoticpc rep can shed some light on this matter :D

radagust, each reseller has several shipping options like USPS, UPS, International Express, Priority Express etc. Each method costs different depending on reliability, insurance, tracking options, shipping time etc.

Some resellers charge less for the laptops and more for shipping (and vice-versa). Better to get quotes from 2-3 resellers before deciding (for the laptop, shipping method and bank charges). You can refer resellerratings.com to check on their reliability.

By the way, the rates mentioned on reseller's websites for international shipping are only estimates. They give you a final quote through e-mail.

    Hope this helped :). Cheers!

Radagust, while your order might be shipped from Sager, it doesn't necessarily use Sager's contracted carrier. The resellers might have the option of using a freight forwarder of their choice that picks up your order from Sager, and assumes the shipping function. This could also be a reason for any price differences.

For international shipments of Sager laptops that do not have any 3rd party upgrades that would require sending it to the reseller first (like skins for example), the laptop is built, tested, burned in and packaged by Sager and shipped from Sager.

USPS Express Mail International to Malaysia is about $150~160US and UPS Worldwide Expedited is about $360.

thanks for the input guys. im going to go ahead and put my faith in xoticpc. 100 bucks for extra security would give me peace of mind since im shipping it half way across the world rather than risk QQing over a DOA lappie.
plus the reps have been more than patient to answer 324293432 of my questions.
