well, I want to invest in one of those beautiful beasts. One thing for sure, its gonna put a huuuuuuuuuge dent in my wallet. So I came here for some advice on some configuration items that i can sacrifice to lower the price!
Keep in mind that I will be using this beauty for gaming purposes mostly.
The items i definatly want to keep are:
-GPU (geforce 7900 GTX 512)
- 1 GB ram
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor
It would help if you guys could advice me on which version of the 64 X2 I should get (speed wise)
now, for the items in question:
- The 80 GB hard drive. Is it worth it to get 7200 RPM? will it make a huge difference? should i just stick to the 5400 RPM?
-The screens resolution. will i notice the difference between the 1680x1050 and the 1920 x 1200?
-Is a DVD writer vital? or im better off with writing regular CD's?

I've been here for just alittle longer than you and I've been asking question after question trying to figure out what things do and what's best for me. I also ordered a 9750. Here's a couple things I found.
If you go to discount laptops, for some reason now you can save 300 bucks if oyou downgrade to the 7900 gtx 256 card. Apparently, those two cards are like the same and the 512 isn't worth it too much.
You could just stick with the 4200+, but I'd say at least 4400. THat's what I got on mine.
The harddrive is definately worth the extra speed if you're like me and just want the fastest rig possible. THe performance is much better on 7200. I went all out on my machine. 5400 would be good enough if you don't mind alittle speed difference though.
WHere are you going to buy your 9750? Of the three or four places I looked at, the 1920x1200 was standard and not changable. I wouldn't want to change it anyway. But if you're looking ot save a buck, downgrading to a 1680x1050 wouldn't really hurt at all, I wouldn't say.
The dvd writer is up to you. Do you burn alot of dvds? If you do, do you have an extra desktop that you can burn dvds at? I can't give my opinions on that one. -

For the 5400RPM vs. 7200RPM question, see here:

Any of the Athlon X2's are going to be fast CPUs. I would go with the 4400+ if possible.
I would go with a DVD writer so it is easier to back up data. -
Emo,
I own that model of notebook, but a little unconventional way of saving money that some of these guys might tell you. You should read my post Building my own Sager 9750/Clevo D900K notebook.
I, as well as yourself it seems, wanted this notebook because its nice and future upgradable, so instead of buying a whole package from Sager, which would cause me to downgrade many things to be able to afford it... I decided to get the barebones of the notebook (all info the the post), and build it myself, which was not very hard at all. And all warranty is still intact.
I would highly recommend to get:
- 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) LCD
- 256mb Geforce 7900 Go GTX
- Pioneer DVD+-RW DVR-K16
thats it, the rest can be up to you depending on your budget. CPU, RAM, Harddrive(s) are all interchangeable and easily available compared to the 3 items listed above. So you can purchase the notebook with a singlecore and save up for a dual core (Athlon or even Opteron), OR you can get a smaller/slower harddrive and upgrade later on, etc. You have a lot of options to save money, but make no mistake, the LCD and the video card are going to stick with you for pretty the rest of your notebooks life.
Note: my advice is for those that are interested, as well as assured in their own abilities to upgrade/build their own notebooks.
