    Is 5.1 Sound possible on NP5973?

    I have a 5973 with the realtek High definition audio card. I did not upgrade it. I want to buy 5.1 surrond sound headphones and am not sure if they are compatible. The headphones have front (green), orange (center/subwoofer) and black (rear) cables. Will they work on the sound ports on the front of the laptop?

    we went over this many times on this forum.

    yes it will work.

    three 3.5mm jacks for 5.1 analog audio.

    it need to be set in the Realtek Effect/Sound Manager software

    Ok. I know that green is left/right and pink is for the mic, what about the black and blue ports on the front of the computer?

    if you go into the software, you can configure those ports to be whatever you want..... they can all be re-mapped.
    like: front, back, center, etc...

    I was actually wondering about this too. Thanks Gophn.

    Those new Psyko Audio headphones are looking mighty tempting.... although they don't ship until April and I can't afford them anyway. :D
