Clevo's should be able to handle DX10 with one core tied behind their backs.
But... they take a hit - so do you think it's better to have nice but slower DX10/Vista or a less pretty but fast (reliable) DX9/XP? Anyone regretting Vista after SP1?
-
-
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
Personally I like Vista, and only have liked it more since SP1. So IMHO going with DX10 not only helps you with being able to play future games, but also helps to futureproof your system. Just my $0.02...
-
4GB of RAM? Use Vista x64
Under 4GB of RAM? Use XP x86.
If your CPU is under 2.2Ghz C2D you should not be running vista either IMO. -
Well it depends... for a high end GPU like the 8800M GTX that can take proper advantage of game details in DX10, it sure as hell is worth it!
-
Vista x64 FTW if you have >= 2GB RAM
-
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
im thinking of getting vista. either premium orltimate what version do i need ifi have 2GB ram? also i have 2.3 dual core, will that be good enough
-
2GB ram - vista 32 bit (x86) vista business or ultimate is good enough i reckon
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
okay thanx.
im going through the process of upgrading.
im adding a second hard drive, 320GB
then adding 2GB ram, is it possible to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit vista without having to buy a new OS?
i am then going to upgrade the CPU, looking at quad core
and finally im going to add a second 8800m GTX -
hmm well no point in getting x86 vista if your going to go to 4gb..
i reckon just get your rams upgraded first then upgrade to vista x64. then upgrade your video card and cpu otherwise your gonna be spending more money going from 32 bit to 64 bit. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
so you have to pay to go from 32bit to 64, thats ashame. thanx for the info
-
yes i believe there is cost going from 32 bit vista to 64 bit vista. i dont think both flavours of vista come on a single dvd. but i may be wrong.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
okay thanx. ill just have to wait until i have my ram.
-
Depends on what type of Vista you get. If you purchase an OEM copy of vista, its either x86 or x64. All retail copies of Vista come with both x86 and x64 versions on the DVD.
Vista is good with 2GB Ram or more. But it hauls when your have 4GB and are running x64. I'd never go back to XP. DX10 gaming is still kinda new. They haven't really fully used it yet since so many people are still on XP and can't develop an app solely for DX10. But with time, we'll see some more impressive stuf!
2.3GHz is fine if dual core. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
x86, x64? what are thse? the names for 32bit and 64bit? -
You are correct.
-
......
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
just checking thanx. so x86 = 32bit and x64 = 64bit?
-
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
thats cool. so i would be able to change from 32bit to 64bit without having to pay extra or do i have to install one and thats it.
-
yep dont have to pay extra but since you are gonna go towards a 4gb ram solution best to install x64 version.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
-
hmm so you want to install a 32 bit os first then jump to the 64 bit when you get your ram?.. i would think that is a long bout way of doing things mate. better to do a clean install to x64 rather than upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit. u can still use 64 bit even with 2gb of ram. then when you do get your rams eventually install them and away you go..
-
Personal decision. And futureproofing.
I`d go for DX10 , why not? -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
whats the difference btween the full version of Vista Ultimate and vista Ultimate upgrade?
i was looking at this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microsoft-Win...rkparms=72:12|39:1|65:12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
sounds good, nice price. could it be a scam? from my understanding as i have XP Pro using an upgrade would take me to Vista Premium, right? what if i got this would i have Vista Ultimate?
is there any software that is leftout or anything if i go for a OME or what ever its called, i know it begins with O and has an M in it -
the vista upgrade package means basically says that you have to have another OS say XP before you can go to vista
the full version of vista doesnt require you to have another OS running previously . you can clean boot and install from scratch..
now there has been talk on the net and you may have to search for it but people have managed to make the vista upgrade package behave like the full version of vista. ie you can clean out xp, reformat it and start from scratch -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
why do that? im just curious what are the benefits of the full version over the upgrade? you can keep your files which is good, right?
-
see here for a workaround
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...stall-windows-vista-with-upgrade-license-dvd/ -
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
but they both have the same features and everything?
so with a Vista Upgrade pack i wouldnt need to back up all my files and everything? is there a downside to this? -
umm downside is you might get a few niggling things not working right you know driver issues thats bout all i can see. personally i have never upgraded any software. always done a clean install. reformatted entire hard drive and start again.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
okay i might do the hack thing and try a clean install.
do you know where to get the drivers for vista ultimate? as i would like these before i do the install as i wont be online to download the drivers at the time. -
well i used the ones that came from the sager cd except for the video drivers and sound drivers.
video from laptopvideo2go and sound from www.realtek.com.tw then go to High definition audio codecs section and download from there -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
will i get the drivers even if i get the upgrade version?
-
-
It`s the same drivers, you only need to care if it`s 32 or 64 bit.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
oh yeah i did, but the OS that came with it was XP, will it still have the drivers for vista?
-
Yes man, you have drivers for both.
-
yes as eleron says you will have both vista and xp drivers..
now its time for this lil guy to go to sleep wayyy past my bedtime (12AM) -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
okay thanx for ya help + rep to ya
-
Actually, just make sure you have your WLAN drivers for x64 vista on a flash drive or cd. Then install all the latest drivers from the manuf. web sites. Best to start with the latest drivers.
Thats what I do at least... -
saying +rep won`t rep anybody, you have to click the scale thing
Anyways, you`re welcome.DX10 in my opinion is not worth the performance taxing, but if you can afford it, you can look at it as using/not using VSync. -
yes go to the manufacturers site for your various hardware and get the drivers from there. they will have the latest and greatest.
-
I seriously suggest NOT buying software off of ebay. It would probably be safer to pirate stuff then buy software from ebay. (not promoting piracy, just showing how bad software+ebay is)

@ armegeddonash (okay thanx. i just wanted to check coz i heard after you install and use the CD key you have like a month to go online and confirm everything or it will just stop working.)
yeh dude that is called the windows activation. you do have a month before you need to activate. -

Pretty much, yes.
