I'm hovering over the p157SM 'buy now' button on my resellers site.
Deciding whether to grab the 8970m, or the 780m.

I would go with the 780m, except the reports of fan noise are putting me off.
I'm hoping the new heat sink paired with the 8970m will keep temps below 80 degrees (thus not kicking fans into extreme).
    Also, I save a few bob :)

So, Enduro - still a problem?

    Games list:

    StarCraft 2
    Rift
    Planetside 2

I figured that was because the 8970m isn't out yet for the new models :)

Any educated guesses on which will run cooler during games, a 8970m or 780m?
I'm thinking the 8970m is still 100w, whereas the 780m is 120w or something isn't it?

*This is in a P157SM with it's new heatsink design.

You can only get such answer from non-seller, non-fan boy, true paid user

I'm a non-seller, non-fanboy user. Yes, it is problematic but the issues aren't insurmountable.

    One thing everybody spends less effort on is the Intel iGPU driver selection. I've tried them all and, for me on Win7 64, the best one is;

    http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Driver/mb_driver_intel_hd_vga_64bit.exe

Make sure a total clean swipe and driver removal is done so nothing AMD/ATI is on your machine when you install the Intel iGPU driver.

After the above Intel driver is loaded then install your AMD driver of choice. My experience has shown that this choice is far less responsible for Enduro issues than the Intel driver selection and driver install order.

Then install the Enduro Driver Fix posted on this section of this forum. (Installing this can't hurt and can only help.)

Never install any CAP's. They have only caused issues for me.

When I use the above method for installing drivers I get consistently high 7970M GPU usage in games and little to no problems.

That said, I will never purchase an Enduro based laptop again where the Intel iGPU can't be manually deactivated by the user. There is no excuse for the issues and complexity of getting Enduro to function reasonably acceptable.

Most resellers will give you the truth. It doesnt help you or us out at all when there are problems with a computer. Its saves everytime time and hassles to say yes we've seen issues, probably should go with Nvidia. What i based my answer on is there hasnt been any Enduro issues reported like there were before 13.X drivers came out either here on NBR or what we hear from customers. They have progressively gotten better with each 13.x revision as well. Just look at the recent post history here, its nothing like it was. Hopefully we dont see that change once the 8970M does come out.

Non-fan boy I do agree though.

Took the wuss option and opted for the 780m.
Though at least 50% of my choice came from the fact the 780m is available NOW :)

It's also roughly 20% faster (possibly more) than the 8970m which is something to be happy about :)

Yes, still a problem. Its not worth the small headaches- from installing to underutilization. The next gen consoles are AMD cards though, so maybe things might change. But I would still place my bets on NVidia.

I haven't used the modified drivers on this forum, but the latest Intel drivers + Enduro = unplayable DX9 games. Borderlands 2 is one of them. I can't say for those others because I don't have them.

Borderlands 2 is known to be pretty cpu dependent, I've owned both the 7970m and 680m and under the same settings the game performs pretty much identically on both cards.

There is a newer Intel driver version out which doesn't make problems playing DX9 games on machines with an AMD (enduro)-cards.

I have my P150EM since january and there weren't a problem with enduro at all, except with the one Intel HD graphics driver version.
