It actually depends on the paste. You do the pea method with IC Diamond, not the line. Arctic Silver 5 recommends using the surface spread method instead on mobile i7's, with line used only on the desktop versions. It's best to check out the application instructions for the individual paste.

What, you don't have a wife breathing down your neck about budgets? Don't you know how far $40 goes in Walmart? But seriously, as a matter of principle, I should be able to do it. If I ever replace my GPU, I'll need to learn how to to do it anyway. But if through some boneheaded mistake I do serious damage, I'll turn in my tech card and start writing poetry.

I'm actually doing the same thing he is, repasting myself for the first time, hehe. $40 here, $40 there, it all adds up really fast. It's far from a hard thing to do by all accounts, and there's always a first. Now, if everyone who tried it for the first time came back saying it was a monumental task, then that would be a different story.

By the same philosophy, one would never learn how to do car maintenance or various handy-man tasks around the house. :)

Thanks Malibal, I've repasted everything myself countless times since I've began overclocking on desktops almost 10 years ago.
I always advice a DYI approach since it brings experience that always is a good thing.
Anyway my point is, since there are many guides around on CPUs...what about gpus?
Same thing applies as the above?
I'm having an hard time with my gtx485m. The core is rectangular shaped so i can't find the proper application for the TP.
The pea sized blob seems to work but also since the particular shape it doesn't seem to spread correctly.
Line method seems too much, spreading as well.
So my question would be: which kind of method you use on your laptops for gpu repasting such gtx580m or 485m?
I'll attempt another repaste later, already drilled some holes above the gpu since the service panel of the p150hm is all closed, that should help a bit.
    Thanks for your input.

Why cook at home when there are many restaurants.

Buy a Big Mac or grill a steak at home.
